My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Cobalt is as sweet and goofy as they come, with looks that could kill. You can become lost in his icy blue eyes that are as deep as the ocean. When he is not running around with his foster sister and work friends he loves to snuggle up on the couch with his foster mom. Cobalt would love to find a family that has room to run and is willing to work with him on his training and hearing impairment. Unfortunately, he is not very food motivated so he requires new and creative ways of positive reinforcement. Cobalt has learned a number of hand signals in his short time with his foster mom that proves just how smart he is despite his hearing issues. Although he hasn’t met any children that his foster mom knows of, we think it would be ideal to be with older kids as his energy level is very high. Cobalt enjoys his foster kitty sister. They will lounge on the couch together and he even lets the kitty groom him from time to time, however he also thinks it is a fun game to chase and try to play with her. Cobalt does have a healthy fear of his kitty foster sister, when she has had enough of his puppy antics he will leave her alone.

Although, Cobalt does love his play time off leash with his friends, he can become protective when attached to a leash (dogs only not people). His foster mom is currently working on this in his training, but will need an owner who can be vigilant to this behavior. From being a shelter dog and having to always be in a crate or kennel Cobalt has developed some fear and anxiety from these experiences. However, with some positive reinforcement of Kong’s filled with frozen canned food he is slowly starting to turn around. He still has some anxiety when put into these situations, so ideally would do best not being left for long periods of time kenneled or crated. Over all Cobalt will win you over with his dopy carefree attitude as he waggles his whole body to great you.

If you are interested in adopting Cobalt please email catahoularescuene@gmail.com and request an application. Once your application has been received and reviewed, you will be contacted via email or phone by one of our volunteers. After your application is approved, the foster parent for the dog you have selected will contact you to answer any questions you may have and determine if that dog is a good match for your family.

If you have no particular dog in mind, we will be happy to keep your application on file and notify you if the right dog should come into rescue. Catahoula Rescue of New England is an all-volunteer group. Dogs in our program are fostered by volunteers. The foster homes care for our dogs as if they were their own. All dogs have received vaccinations appropriate to age and are spayed or neutered.

Cobalt's adoption donation is $400 which includes Rabies, DHLPP, Bordetella, fecal test, heartworm test when appropriate and is on preventative, microchip, and neuter. We do not have a physical shelter, all of our dogs are fostered in individual foster homes across the New England and Canada.
