My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Oliver (Formally Hoss) - ME

Breed: Catahoula Leopard Hound Mix
Age: 1 year +/- est
Weight: 60 lbs
Medical: Up-To Up-To-Date on Vaccinations, microchipped, altered
Cat Friendly: No
Dog Friendly: Yes
Kid Friendly: Ages 7+
House Trained: Yes
Crate Trained: Yes
Location: Maine

Oliver was kenneled outside and first stepped foot in a house on Sunday, April 21. He was nervous at first but has settled in nicely, quickly learning his name and "sit". He is completely house broken and can easily be distracted to prevent chewing. Oliver has separation anxiety and always wants to be in the same room with a human or another dog. He has learned so much by imitating our doodles so I would not suggest that he be the only dog.

He loves humans but can be leery of males at first but then snuggles up for affection. Oliver is very calm in the house but in typical Catahoula fashion, can be very vocal and rambunctious when playing with other dogs. He is getting used to the normal noises of the house and will alert us to anything that seems suspicious. Oliver wants his own family to love!!

CRNE Adoption Application:

Once your application has been received and reviewed, you will be contacted via email or phone by one of our volunteers. After your application is approved, the foster parent for the dog you have selected will contact you to answer any questions you may have and determine if that dog is a good match for your family.

If you have no particular dog in mind, we will be happy to keep your application on file and notify you if the right dog should come into rescue. Catahoula Rescue of New England is an all-volunteer group. Dogs in our program are fostered by volunteers. The foster homes care for our dogs as if they were their own. All dogs have received vaccinations appropriate to age and are spayed or neutered.

Oliver’s adoption donation is $450 which includes Rabies, DHLPP, Bordetella, fecal test, heartworm test, is on preventative, microchip and neuter depending on age at time of adoption. If the dog is too young for a spay/neuter, then they will be adopted with a spay/neuter contract and deposit. We do not have a physical shelter; all our dogs are fostered in individual foster homes across the New England and Canada.

Additional adoption info

We have a written application followed by a phone interview. If the applicant is approved past this point then we check 2 personal references as well as their vet reference. If they rent we speak with their landlord as well. If all is well at this point then we do a home check. The final step is a meet and greet where the adopter and the household, including dogs travel to meet the new adoptive dog. If all goes well they can adopt. There is an adoption contract and the adoption fee ranges between $200-400 depending on the fees that we put into the particular dog.

Go meet their pets

We support local "ma & pa" business before the big box chains since many of us come from some communities. We also attended fairs and "meet & greet" events.

More about this rescue

We are all volunteers that love and appreciate the breed. Our board members all have many years of breed knowledge and have all adopted or fostered rescued animals.
