James is a sweet, calm, and a kind boy. He is highly entertained with the smells of the outdoors and enjoys sniffing all the bushes outside; your birds and squirrels are safe since he doesn’t even notice them in the yard! At 10 years old, he is a perfect balance of relaxation and exploring. James walks pretty well on a leash but needs guidance to not pull; he is just so happy to go on walks! His favorite activity on a walk is sniffing all the mailboxes and bushes along the way. Once out for a walk, he will settle in and walk well. He is really grateful to take these walks ~ it shows in his demeanor how special these opportunities are to him. He gets very happy when you pull out the leash!

James knows basic commands (sit, wait, come, gentle {for treats}) but he needs consistency to reinforce his knowledge. One cute trick he knows is when asked to sit is he will sit up on his hind legs to give paw when asked. He doesn’t mind if you need to pick up his food bowl, treat, or toy while he is eating or playing. He has been a wonderful house guest; respecting boundaries and has only climbed in our kitchen cozy chair a few times as he seems to prefer his big bed. He has discovered that it is nice to sit with his human brother in the chair. When home and inside, his favorite spot is on his dog bed to chill or enjoy a chew bone, or in his crate when its bedtime; he likes to put himself to bed by 8pm. His dog friends in the foster’s home say he has been a great friend and the humans are in love with him and his sweetness.

He would love his person/family to enjoy being outside but also relax on the couch in the evenings. One of his sweetest characteristics is how loving he is and how expressive his eyes are when he needs to tell you something. James is a handsome, calm, sweet boy who would give anything to snuggle with you and roam around in a nice, fenced backyard. He is the best sleeper too ~ loves lots of nap times and sleeps through the night! As the song goes, James Taylor is definitely a ‘sweet baby James’ with really big, beautiful blue eyes!

If you are interested in adopting JT please email catahoularescuene@gmail.com and request an application. Once your application has been received and reviewed, you will be contacted via email or phone by one of our volunteers. After your application is approved, the foster parent for the dog you have selected will contact you to answer any questions you may have and determine if that dog is a good match for your family.

If you have no particular dog in mind, we will be happy to keep your application on file and notify you if the right dog should come into rescue. Catahoula Rescue of New England is an all-volunteer group. Dogs in our program are fostered by volunteers. The foster homes care for our dogs as if they were their own. All dogs have received vaccinations appropriate to age and are spayed or neutered.

JT's adoption donation is $250 which includes Rabies, DHLPP, Bordetella, fecal test, heartworm test when appropriate and is on preventative, microchip, and neuter. We do not have a physical shelter, all of our dogs are fostered in individual foster homes across the New England and Canada.
