Wah Gwaan’ (Jamaican greeting How are you!). My name is Monte and as you probably guessed I have come all the way from Jamaica. I think I am a handsome young pup and will make an awesome new member to your family. I am a mixed breed and could eventually weigh around 30-35lbs.
I have been told I am delightful and will make you laugh as I have really long legs and move like a gazelle. Can you believe it – I have only been at my foster home for a short time and already learning to go potty in the backyard – pretty good for a 5 month old. When I first arrived I had no idea how to go up and down the stairs, but guess what, I learned very quickly (even though it was a little scary for me) because I’m such a smart boy. I’m still very much a puppy and will need to learn lots of new things, such as walking on this thing they call a leash, so my Foster Dad is working with me on this. I will need a fully fenced in backyard for me to run and play so no condos for me.
For a puppy I have been quite quiet (but that may change as I gain confidence) and learning how to play. I love dogs and will play with them as long as they are my size or smaller – the bigger dogs are scary for me right now so I’m very timid and submissive around them. I would love to have another dog in the home (not big!), as the company of a dog to play with, and help with my confidence of learning so much would be wonderful. I love food and treats so training me will be good as I am motivated (and I take the treats very gently). I will need puppy classes, especially for the walking, recall, etc. and help socialize me with all different sizes of dogs. Remember, I’m a smart boy so I will learn!
I’m cuddly and will sit on the sofa to get lots of pets. Because I’m still young I don’t really like to be left alone for too long as I get scared thinking no one is coming back for me. I sleep well through the night, and have been enjoying my Foster Dad’s bed. Funny thing happen to me – while I was so relaxed enjoying this comfy bed while sleeping, I fell off the bed – I’m such a klutz!!
Here is what my Foster Dad says about me: “Monte is a gentle soul and very friendly. He is experiencing new things, such as running into a full length mirror but he now knows what it is! Monte enjoys playing with dogs his size or smaller. The leash training is a work in progress but he will learn as he is smart. He is just nervous right now as he adjusts to this new environment. Monte is a beautiful little guy and whoever adopts him will be very lucky!”
