My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Contact THIRD COAST ANIMAL RESCUE at: thirdcoastanimalrescue@gmail.com or https://www.facebook.com/thirdcoastanimalrescue/ with adoption inquiries Your first impression of Joy is going to be that she's skittish, fearful, and high maintenance socially. You'll probably wonder why her name is Joy. What you aren't seeing in that first meet is her amazing ability to trust and her sheer joy in some of the simple things. She loves to run, she will alternate between leaping around like a gazelle and running with her butt tucked under for maximum speed! Joy loves other dogs and cats (much to their dismay). She will get along even with old grumpy dogs but takes a bit to learn their signals for 'no'. Ideally, Joy should have an equally energetic dog to play with. The good thing is that she mostly understands that inside is cuddle, nap, or quiet play time and outside is run around like a crazy dog time as long as the other dogs are being calm, too. She has done quite well with indoor cats but the outdoor cat in her foster home was a bit too indulging of some of her bad antics and now she tries to play with him by mouthing on him, which he doesn't like. Joy is mostly crate trained and partially housebroken. If she gets to go potty on a schedule like a puppy would then she doesn't have any accidents. She is calm and quiet in her crate but will have occasional accidents if she has to wait too long or if she drank too much. She can be skittish, she will not do well with anyone that uses negative reinforcement/punitive measures. She has responded well to positive reinforcement and blossoms quickly in new environments with those methods. She should not go to a home with small children, but should do well with teenagers. Once she gets the flow of her new home and some treats she will even do well with a few visitors over. Joy LOVES soft toys and will hoard them. She will either drag them all into her crate or pick a corner of the house near the person she trusts most to hoard them and fall asleep. In fact, when she first gets to a new home or when she doesn't have access to toys she tends to do a lot of pacing. Toys help make her feel secure and she doesn't destroy them.April 26, 2024, 12:06 am
