My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Salām 'Alaykum! I am “SOKAR” which suits me as it is the Arabic word for sugar – and I am sugary sweet. I was rescued from the streets of Egypt by some amazing people. My Foster in Egypt said I am such a friendly and loving boy who deserves a wonderful new life in Canada. I am about 11 months old. Not to brag, but I am one handsome boy – just look at my pictures!

I’m starting to relax and enjoy my amazing Foster family who shower me with love and patience. I love to play with my two foster fur siblings and we have fun. In my forever home, it would be preferable to have another dog to continue my growth and trust (but not absolutely necessary if there are other dogs I can interact and play with). I am timid and uncertain around new people and new things, but I’m getting better every day under the guidance of my Foster Mom (and foster family) and dog siblings. It is unknown how long I could be left alone but having another dog would help me. I will benefit with positive reinforcement puppy training to help me become the best dog ever!

I should mention I LOVE the ladies. I would have a lovely time in a home with all ladies! Men are OK but I am very wary of them so it will take me some time to warm up as I was abused by males as a puppy – if there are males in my new home, you are going to need to give me a chance to trust you as I do with the ladies. My foster family has four males, and I am learning they are all great. Since I may be easily startled, any children in the home must be 13+ (and I have not been kid tested living with children, but I seem to be OK when I meet them on my social walks).

I am cat tested! While I was in Egypt, I lived with three cats and we all got along, so I am friendly with my feline friends.

I walk well on my leash (and I love my walks). I’m amazing in car rides – I get in easily and happily plus a lay right down and go to sleep once the car is driving. I’m going to need a nice size yard to run around with my fur sibling, and a 6-foot fence. No APARTMETS/CONDOS for me! I do shed, so if you have allergies, I’m not your guy. I DO NOT like the crate so don’t even try one with me. I’m just a super loving dog who doesn’t like to be confined – but who does these days! Bonus, I am housetrained.

Here is what my Foster Mom says about me so far: “Sokar arrived very terrified and took several days to decompress, but Sokar is now making leaps and bounds progress. He is good with gentle people. Sokar is a super happy puppy. He has tons of energy and loves to romp and play in the yard. He engages our dogs in chase and wrestling. Sokar LOVES Beef Esophagus treats and gets so excited when he sees the treat. He now can sit for treats, and he is learning new commands – he so smart and willing to please! Sokar is great when it is time for napping and bedtime. He gives kisses and loves rubs of any kind. Just like my dogs, he will let us know when someone is at the door. He sometimes will howl a little bit if I leave him but will settle with my husband. He hides when strangers come into the house or he meets them during the walk – but once he realizes all is fine, he is great. Sokar takes people’s clothes to bed, chews his stick, and then goes to sleep – he’s just too cute! Given time with his new family, he is going to be an awesome family member – you just need to put in the love, patience, and training with him.”

If I sound like the boy you would love to join the family, put in an application! I know there is a family who will fall in love with me and provide me a happy and home forever. I promise I will give you lots of loving! Please give me the opportunity! All my love and kisses, SOKAR!
