Sweet little Baxter has been in our system for one month.
His story is a sad one. His owner passed away in April 2021. The owner's husband went to the hospital in May. The extended family was unable to care for him in their house, so Baxter was left alone at his home from May until late July when he showed up at his foster's home. Someone came to let Baxter out and feed him every 12 hours. Needless to say, all the time alone traumatized him even more after losing his owners.
Since straying to his foster's home, Baxter has been friendly with everyone who has visited. He does bark for a few minutes, until settling down. He is playful and active. He still likes to go for walks and does not pull on a leash. He lives with his foster and an older, low energy dog. When a friend tried him at her home, Baxter gave chase to the chickens and cats - this boy has lots of life and energy left. He LOVES to be outside to watch the world go by. He is very gentle with taking treats (Plus he has very few teeth) and seems to know sit and paw. We are working on come and stay.
Baxter was not well socialized. He is fearful of quick movements and unfamiliar sounds.
This sweet 11 year old is up to date with vaccines, microchipped, neutered, and on flea/tick/heartworm preventative.
Won't you consider giving little Baxter a loving home of his own?
