My story

FOSTERED IN: Elgin, IL 60124

WEIGHT: 70lbs

KIDS: Older

CATS: Possible

Beau was found as a stray in rural NE Louisiana. When he was found, he had ear infections, was underweight, heartworm positive, and had an old eye injury leaving him blind in one eye. Beau has been successfully treated and is heartworm free!

Beau’s foster home describes him as inquisitive, goofy, loving, and patient. Beau has fantastic house manners: he is housetrained, not destructive, crate trained (he loves his crate), and is a pretty quiet guy - no over the top hound barking for this guy. Beau is a medium energy level guy, but he would love to go for casual, meandering walks in quiet areas and enjoys some play time in the yard, but mostly he enjoys naps and snuggles.

Beau loves attention and has become quite the snuggler. The vet he has seen gives him 5/5 stars for being so sweet and so easy to handle. Beau loves all strangers and thinks everyone he meets should give him a few pats and scratches before moving on. Beau is very food motivated which makes any training or behavior modification super easy. He takes all his treats in extra-gentle-super-slo-mo so no one has to worry about nibbled fingers. Despite being very food motivated, Beau does not bother people when they are eating. He might watch hopefully from a distance, because it never hurts to hope.

Beau is being fostered in a home with 3 other dogs of varying sizes and he gets along very well with all of them and occasionally likes to have a good romp in the yard with them. He does enjoy having a place of his own (crate) where he can go when he wants some alone time. Beau would be equally happy in a home with other dogs, or as an only dog. He's also done well with meeting other dogs outside the home. However, he is more of a country boy as the commotion of the city can be stressful for him.

Like many dogs, Beau does not like to have his food or special treats touched while he is eating. (Who does?!) Everyone in Beau’s family would need to be able to understand that he (like all dogs) should be given the opportunity to eat or chew his treats without being bothered. Because of this, older kids and a feeding space separate from other pets would be best.

Beau is a fantastic easy going dog with few demands in life. He will fit well into a lot of different types of families, but does best in a suburban or rural environment with a solid fenced yard. If you think he is a good match for your family the first step is to complete our adoption application. You can find our application and more information about our adoption process on our website:

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We encourage potential adopters to ask friends, family, and Lulu’s Locker about companion animal experiences in their lives. We want to ensure the animal we adopt to you fits well in your home environment. We are happy to answer any questions you may have about long-term animal care prior to adopting! Please contact us via email

Everything we do is for the animals in our care, and is aimed at giving them the best possible chance of finding a permanent home.

- Fill out our online Adoption Application to get the process rolling!

- Once your Application is completed, you will have a phone conversation with an adoption counselor.

- Once you’ve been approved, s/he will fill you in on the personalities, history, and behavior of the animals to allow you to make the best choice possible for your living situation. You can ask your counselor any questions you have regarding health, behavior, and long-term care.

- You and all members of your household will then be invited to visit the foster home or boarding facility where the animal is currently living. If you decide adoption is right for you, you will be asked to sign an adoption contract and pay an adoption fee which covers the spay/neuter, wellness exam, vaccinations, microchip, and heartworm test (dogs only).

- Animals are subject to a home visit prior to completion of the adoption process.

- You will ALWAYS have continued support from Lulu’s Locker after your adoption! We invite you to contact us at any time with questions or concerns!

More about this rescue

Lulu’s Locker Rescue is a nonprofit, volunteer-run companion animal rescue working to bring to light the plight of black cats and dogs in shelters as well as the misconceptions surrounding FIV cats. We aim to lower the euthanasia rate of these animals by educating the public and providing foster care as we seek out permanent homes. We are committed to the protection of the misjudged and wrongly stereotyped through compassion and respect, which we believe both animals and human beings deserve.

We are based out of Frankfort, IL, and rescue cats and dogs in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs.
