My story

Meet Zeus -5 year old, silver lab.

Meet Zeus -5 year old, silver lab.

Zeus is currently being fostered on Long Island with two easy going dogs.

Zeus was surrendered to a shelter after his owner had a stroke. This boy was well trained in his original home. He knows most commands: "sit, stay, down, come". The original intent was to train him to be a service dog - but Zeus is a bit too nervous for that task and needs a strong, confident owner. He is such a faithful, loyal, loving companion but is nervous when meeting new folks so it is best to leash him up and give him time to get a few sniffs in first - he comes around very quickly but probably would not do well in a home with young children. So an experienced owner, who will make him feel comfortable and confident is what this boy needs. Someone who will take the time to work with him - could that be you?

NYSRR is a small rescue located on Long Island. Our vets, trainers, volunteers, and fosters are located here, which is why we typically adopt to families within a 60 mile radius of Long Island.

Why adoption is a great option

Zeus, a Bayport Labrador Retriever dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Labrador Retriever for sale in Bayport, or seeking a Labrador Retriever dog from a breeder in Bayport.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Bayport already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Bayport breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Labrador Retriever breeders who help with Labrador Retriever rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Bayport paves the way for another one to be saved.
