Say hello to Cooper!

He is a 4 year old Pit Bull mix that weighs 68 pounds. Cooper is a playful and affectionate pup who loves going on adventures and running around outside. He can be a bit shy when meeting new people, but he warms up quickly and loves spending time with you. If he's not playing with his toys or engaging in a training session, then he will surely be cuddled up by your side.

He is eager to learn new tricks and will gladly learn anything in exchange for some tasty treats! Cooper can be jumpy and mouthy when he gets excited, but after some training in his foster home he has learned some new activities to do when he needs to settle down. After a day or two in the home he settles in quickly and loves a routine of walks, playing, and cuddling. He is selective with his canine friends, so he may prefer to be the only dog in his new home, but with a proper introduction he did well with the do gin his foster home. Due to his initial sensitivity and excitement, if there are children in his forever home they need to be ages 13 and older.

All of our adoptable animals are up-to-date on all age appropriate vaccinations, spayed or neutered, de-wormed, de-flea and microchipped before adoptions are finalized. All dogs over six months of age receive a temperament assessment by our Certified Professional Dog Trainer to ensure appropriate placement. Also, many animals in our care receive basic obedience training to improve manners and increase adoptability.

We are currently doing adoptions by appointment only. Please contact us by phone at (234) 212-9843 or email at adoptions@summithumane.org, and an adoption counselor will return your message. They will review our adoption process, answer any questions, and tell you more about the animals currently available for adoption at our shelter and in our foster program. If we have a match for you and your family, an appointment will be scheduled to meet the animal.

Dogs
6 months or under: $175
6 months to 5 years: $125
6 years or older (or special needs): $50

Cats
6 months or under: $75 (or two kittens for $100)
6 months to 5 years: $50
6 years or older (or special needs): $20

Senior to Senior Program: For adopters age 60 or older, adoption fees are reduced to $15 if the animal is 3 years or older. This service is made possible through the Pets for the Elderly Foundation. You will be asked to provide proof of age.

Veteran Pet Program: Veterans and active military personnel receive 25% off of adoption fees. Valid military ID is required.

Since 1968, the Humane Society of Summit County (HSSC) has been the trusted caretaker and advocate for Summit County’s victims of animal abuse, neglect, and abandonment and stray animals suffering from illness and injury. We employ two full-time Humane Officers who respond to emergency calls, investigate animal cruelty, and, as warranted, prosecute offenders. We protect and care for our community’s abused, discarded, and forgotten animals. We strive every day to rehabilitate our rescued animals, find them great homes, and provide them with bright futures.
