My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Barney is a 13 year old handsome orange tabby cat. He is looking for a new forever home for his retirement years after his human companion had to move into a care facility that doesn’t allow pets. In addition to losing his human family member, he also recently lost his litter mate, Fred, who passed away a couple months ago. Don’t worry though, Barney is a healthy boy. He’s had a lot of major losses in his life and is anxious to have a fresh start with a new loving family.

While Barney may initially be very scared and may even hiss at strangers or new people, once he realizes that he can trust you, he will become your very loving friend and will enjoy being petted while sitting on your lap. He will happily greet you when you arrive home or if you work from home or are retired, he’ll be a very content boy to have you nearby. He’s not a very playful cat which isn’t unusual for a mature cat like him but it seems very likely that he would enjoy a catnip toy occasionally and maybe even a wand toy to try to catch. Just like many cats, he enjoys looking out windows while perched on a cat tree in the comfort of his home. He must be indoor only, just like all Reuben’s Room cats.

Barney did fine with his cat brother who he lived with since he was a kitten but it’s difficult to know how he may be with another cat. It might be just fine with a proper introduction but he may also appreciate being an only cat that doesn’t have to share attention with anyone else. He’s never lived with a dog before but when a family dog visited, he wasn’t aggressive with the dog but not necessarily a buddy either so a gentle, friendly dog may be fine but it’s unknown for sure. He would be well suited in a home with adults only but would probably do okay with older children that respect the boundaries of cats.

Our senior cats often get overlooked but anyone who has had a senior cat knows how special and loving they are. Are you willing to share your home with this special senior boy and help cure his loneliness after having so many recent losses?
