Boomer von Braun is an adorable 4-month old shepherd mix puppy with the cutest ears! We think he must be part eagle because he looks like he’s ready to take flight. This very sweet boy loves the companionship of his foster pack and follows them everywhere. Boomer can be Initially shy with his human family but becomes a cuddle bug when he gets to know you; he quickly learned that a soft lap is his favorite place for a well-deserved nap. This gentle soul is also so good with the small dogs in the house, is respectful of his older pack leaders, and is well-socialized. Boomer especially loves to play with his girlfriend, Sootie, and would do best in a home with another dog to help show him the way. Being a smart shepherd breed, he quickly learned where to ‘do his business’ and sleeps quietly in a crate all night without making a mess. Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.
