My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Rosie
My story is not unique. I was a 23-day-old stray kitten when I first entered the HSHC, back in 2022. About a month later, I was adopted. Young kittens who are orphaned usually miss out on crucial lessons taught by a mother cat. They often lack confidence, are fearful, and easily stressed. In retrospect, I entered my new home, uneducated by my momma, with limited social experience. I lived with my adopter and her 8-year-old daughter. I had always gotten along very well with the adults in the house. But because I can be easily overstimulated by being petted, I give subtle body language cues to say, “Please stop touching me.” Signals like swishing my tail, flattening my ears, twitching my body, and hissing are about as clear as I can be. Even though my owner tried to teach her daughter to heed these signs, the youngster ignored her mom and kept petting me and interacting with me. My attempts to communicate with her always failed. And that is why I was returned to the HSHC in November of 2025. Sadly, I have been waiting to find a new home for 97 days now. There are so many good things about me. I am only 3.5- years-old. I am very smart and love batting the balls around in my stacked ring toy. I’m very pretty. I’m a playful girl with a need to run, jump, climb cat towers, and sit by a window. I will play with anything I can move around. I am nuts about wand toys and balls I can chase. If I had the chance to play as hard as I could, I’d be much more relaxed, tired out, and willing to chill. Oh, and I love Temptation cat treats! The interviewer lady (IL) is very sorry that I’ve been waiting so long. She tells me the right person who understands cat language will come along. I sure hope so. 2-10-26

More about this shelter

With an open admission policy, a No-Kill philosophy, and more than 3,100 animals crossing our threshold each year, we have still maintained a 98% placement rate over the last 3 years.

This is an amazing feat for any organization…let alone one that takes in some of the most abused, injured and seriously ill animals imaginable.
