My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sweet Mama
How’re you doing? I’m hanging in there, but every day it gets harder to stay positive. However, I had a pleasant visit with the interviewer lady (IL) the other day, and she made me feel very good about myself. As soon as she opened my door, she said, “You look like a British Shorthair cat!” She told me my thick coat, stocky body, and broad, round face shape were the reason. She also said that my current photos may not reflect it, but she sees it! She said BSHs are known for their calm, gentle temperament, and females weigh between 7 and 12 lbs. I weigh 12.3. She said my owner had described me to the HSHC staff as a very laid-back cat, even lazy! I am prone to jumping into laps for a cuddle. I do well with other cats, but I don’t usually interact unless I get an energy spurt and want to play. I am fond of batting at wand toys while lying down. She said I had no problem with eating and would eat anything. My owner surrendered 2 other cats and me to the HSHC on February 17 due to allergies. I am a 3-year-old, spayed DSH tabby. My owner found me as a stray, and I have lived with her all my life. It should come as no surprise that upon arrival, I was frightened, unsure, and depressed, which caused me to lose my appetite. The Feline Care Specialists soon discovered that I was not eating because I was lonely. They call this being a “social eater”. I believe that many cats who find themselves in a new place with new people do not feel like eating. Anyway, I was in the middle of a comprehensive bath when the IL opened my door. In order to find out if she was friendly, I hopped down from my perch and approached her. That is when she gave me the compliment about BSHs, and I put my head in her hand. She told me my tabby coat was exceedingly soft, and I began to purr. Suddenly, I felt compelled to consume my untouched breakfast, yum. Since the HSHC staff and the volunteers cannot sit with me for every meal, I have a suggestion. If you’re looking for a loving, gentle, and affectionate companion, please come to the shelter and meet me today. Bring me home, and I promise to bring calm, warmth, and many cuddles to your life. Let’s make this happen—adopt me and let’s start our new chapter together! Do we have a deal? 3-7-26

More about this shelter

With an open admission policy, a No-Kill philosophy, and more than 3,100 animals crossing our threshold each year, we have still maintained a 98% placement rate over the last 3 years.

This is an amazing feat for any organization…let alone one that takes in some of the most abused, injured and seriously ill animals imaginable.
