Inka von Inzell is a gorgeous, 6-month-old German Shepherd. This young bicolor girl is sweet and smart. She already knows commands like “sit,” “down" and “paw” and is pleased to show off in exchange for treats from your open palm. Inka is so excited to go on walks. She can pull just a bit on the leash at first but is easily corrected and settles down. Walking with a group of dogs is something she likes and she is good meeting other dogs face-to-face. If you are looking for a dog to come up and be by your side, Inka’s your girl. She loves all the attention you want to give: belly rubs, head scratches, she’ll take it all. Inka is a “social butterfly” in the play yard. She likes greeting all the dogs as she wanders around. Inka prefers her friends to be of the dog variety and is a “no” for cats.

Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.
