Handsome, 9 year old Leo is patiently waiting for his new permanent buddy to walk through the door! Leo arrived at the shelter as a stray nearly two years ago a sweet, goofy guy who needed to learn that not everyone wanted to be greeted with a big hug! He’s become a staff and volunteer favorite, and although can still be strong on a leash, now knows his commands perfectly and will wait when you ask him. He is quite the people pleaser, always checking in with his handlers looking for approval. Leo’s playful spirit remains strong- he is a true athlete that lives to chase a tennis ball, loves to swing around rope toys, has a blast on our agility equipment, and has been enjoying our new tetherball setup! Leo has been simply described by our volunteers as “sweet & happy,” and we think he would make an excellent addition to an active family. Leo can be dominant and on the rougher side when playing with other dogs, a meeting would required at the shelter with any other dogs living in the home. If you are interested in learning more about Leo please give us a call at 516-869-6311 or email us at animalshelter@northhempsteadny.gov to request an adoption application.
*Reminder* We are currently facilitating adoptions through appointment only. If you arrive at the shelter without an appointment to meet a dog, we may not be able to assist you.
