My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello: My name is RUFUS and I arrived from Mexico. I was starving in the streets of Mexico but fortunately I was rescued at 4 months old by a wonderful lady. I am approximately 10 months old. It is believed I am a Schnauzer/Terrier mix, weighing approximately 35lbs. I have been told I am a good-looking boy (I hope you think so, too) and affectionate. At the Mexican Shelter I was good with other dogs and friendly with people.

I have settled in very nicely in at my Foster Dad’s home and I’m doing well. I’m a little timid when I meet new people but warm up quickly, especially if treats are involved – once I know you I treat you like you are my best friend! I was a good boy at the Vet for my checkup -- I was nervous, but the staff said I did great. I have good puppy energy. I am enjoying playing (and chewing, but I now have a big bone to chew on). I do love food so I’m in the kitchen with my foster dad hoping for a few droppings (or seeing what is on that counter)! I enjoy laying on the bench watching the world go by at the front window – sometimes I even bark to let my foster dad know someone is out there. My energy level is medium to high (I’m a puppy still!). I’m a light shedding dog so if you don’t like that or suffer from allergies, I guess I’m not the sweet boy for you. My leash training is going very well, and I get excited when my foster dad is getting ready to walk – I just love them. My house training is good. Since I am young and have had limited training, positive reinforcement training classes will be good for me, plus I have been told it is a bonding experience with family – sounds good to me!

I like being outside in the backyard where I can run freely and use up some of my energy. I will need a secure FENCED backyard. No condos for me due to my energy and I can’t promise I won’t bark sometimes. My foster dad has left me alone for short periods, and it seems I have been OK – I may whimper when he leaves while waiting for his return. I just love to be with my humans, so maybe a doggie sibling will keep me company while my humans are gone. I will not do well if you want to use a crate – I don’t like it.

Here is what my foster dad says about me: “Rufus is a sweet and loving boy. He is very affectionate. He will warm up to strangers quickly and he is great once he knows all is good. It has been lots of changes for this little guy since arriving from Mexico, so he continues to adjust to his new environment – he loved his first snow. He loves his treats and food! He can be a mischievous young boy and lots of fun. Rufus sleeps well through the night. During the day he likes to follow me around but he also likes to rest on the couch. He goes for 3 walks per day and enjoys them plus he loves every person and dog he meets. Rufus should do very well with another dog in his new home, and with people who are loving and patient to give him the time to adjust to another home. Rufus will make an amazing addition to your family. He is just a big bundle of happy energy!

What do you think so far? I hope my new family is out there looking for someone as sweet as me. If I sound like the perfect addition to your family, please apply for me.

Love Rufus XOXO
