My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Barkis is a handsome bluetick coonhound who is looking for the right home. He's about 3 years old and weighs about 50 lbs Barkis is an affectionate and living companion with medium energy requirements. He currently enjoys his fenced yard and frequent walks. Barkis has been living in a foster home for most of the last year. He's housebroken and has good house manners. Barkis has undergone a lot of training while at his foster home. He has learned to greet people gently and knows several obedience commands. Barkis' trainer is offering a free initial training session to get Barkis off to a good start in his new home. The ideal home for Barkis would be in a country or suburban setting with a yard, with an adopter who is hound experienced and can offer structure and routine. Barkis is currently located in north central Connecticut and is available for visits.

More about this rescue

Coonhounds make wonderful pets. They are very sociable and affectionate and get along well with families and with other dogs. Outside of New England, coonhounds are mostly used for hunting and are often discarded and undervalued if they turn out to be poor trackers or are not needed anymore. Our mission is to educate people about the suitability of coonhounds as pets; to provide support to coonhound owners; and to re home as many coonhounds as possible .
