My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Kovu: A Survivor Looking for a Special Forever Home

Kovu is a brave and loving German Shepherd/Husky mix with a heart of gold. After surviving an unimaginable past, he’s ready to find a very special forever home. Kovu is up to date on vaccines, neutered, microchipped, housebroken, and crate trained.

Kovu’s Story:
Kovu’s journey to healing hasn’t been easy. He and his puppies were rescued from an extreme abuse situation, locked in a house for months with no food or water. While Kovu’s puppies have found their forever homes, Kovu still needs more help with human socialization. With the love and patience of his foster, he has made incredible progress—but he’s still looking for that one special person who can continue helping him trust the world again.

Kovu’s Personality:

  • Dog-Friendly: Kovu LOVES other dogs and is great with puppies! He thrives in a pack and enjoys playing and interacting with his canine companions.

  • Human-Savvy: Kovu is a bit more cautious with people. He’s not a snuggly dog and doesn’t seek out a lot of physical attention—but he does enjoy playing tag with his favorite humans once he's comfortable. He's also treat-motivated and happy to give kisses when the mood strikes!

  • Quiet & Low-Key: Kovu is not much of a barker—he’ll vocalize at dinner time or when he’s excited to go outside. He’s generally a quiet, calm presence in the home.

What Kovu Needs in a Home:

  • No Kids: Kovu has no experience with kids, and would do best in a home with older, dog-savvy children—or no children at all.

  • Other Dogs: He thrives in the company of other friendly, well-socialized dogs who can help him continue building confidence.

  • Patience & Understanding: Kovu needs a home where his humans are patient and willing to let him set the pace. He may never be the cuddly, snuggly dog some people dream of, but he’ll reward you with loyalty, companionship, and lots of playtime once he knows he can trust you.

  • No Cats: Kovu has no cat experience, so a cat-free home is recommended.

What’s Next for Kovu?
Kovu is looking for a family who will love him for who he is—a dog who may never be the social butterfly, but who still has so much to offer. If you’re someone who understands that love comes in many forms, Kovu might be the perfect companion for you.

If you think you’re the right fit for this sweet survivor, please reach out! Kovu is ready to find his forever family, and with your help, he’ll continue to heal and thrive.

More about this rescue

Sauver Des Chiens German Shepherd Dog Rescue is an all-volunteer, foster-based 501(c)3 organization based in Texas. At this time we service Texas and Louisiana. Our passion and our mission is to rescue neglected, unwanted, and abused German Shepherd and Large Paw Dogs with the goal of finding them a new permanent and loving home. All dogs receive full veterinary care, including spay/neuter, positive training and necessary behavior modification before they are ready to adopt. These dogs come from stressful circumstances and are give a few weeks to de-compress before being offered for adoption. We do this for the love of animals. #bethatsomeone #foster #volunteer #adopt #theirlivesmatter
