My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Kenzo von Kempfeld is a beautiful 2-3 year-old German Shepherd. This boy is thriving and is looking to make even more paw steps forward with training and guidance. He learns so much so quickly, having mastered “paw” and “down” in addition to “sit” and walking beautifully on a leash. Kenzo craves work and, if he was a person, would love Mondays and always stay late at the office. However, this extra-large boy does know how to use his time off. He adores being pet and lying by your feet. At the rescue, he sometimes hangs out in the office and mostly lounges on his bed. Kenzo has an affinity for squeaky toys and treats given with an open palm. He’s not so much a fan of pushy male dogs or of cats. Ever a cool dude, he prefers to avoid conflict, spending playgroups greeting, mingling and hoping for a treat (or four). This medium/high-energy boy is bound to be the star of obedience classes and chill movie nights. Kenzo’s dreams are even bigger than his ears — make his dreams come true and come by to shake his paw hello.

Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.
