My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Howdy, ya'll. If you don't know me, I'm Rocket. You might call me the cowboy of Second Chance. I'm a rough and tumble outlaw who can swig water at the saloon with the best of 'em, I walk wide-legged like I'm wearing invisible chaps, and I don't need no horse, because I gallop faster than any steed (but I'm shaped like a mini buffalo).

Alas, like lots of scoundrels in the wild East, I'm actually just misunderstood. Deep down, I'm a lover who always enjoys a romp in the hay and a snuggle in my kennel. I'll just plop all 58-pounds of me in the nearest lap and give the slobberiest, wettest kisses to everyone who doesn't ask for them.

My favorite thing in the whole wide world is riding high in any carriage (what you Yanks call vehicles). Any fellow cowboy/cowlady truckers or travelers out there need a partner for the long-haul? I promise I won't take up too much room in the cabin, since I'm only as tall as a few 10-gallon hats. I can picture it now - just me and you out on the open road, riding into the sunset with no other dogs, cats or people. I'm really a one-person buckaroo, to tell the truth.

Apply to adopt your new best friend at www.secondchanceas.org/adopt or at the sanctuary any time we're open. Call 570-376-3646 or email secondchanceas@yahoo.com with any questions.

Their adoption process

1.

Submit Application

Fill out an application at the sanctuary or www.secondchanceas.org/adopt (Inquiries on online listings don't constitute an application)

2.

Interview

We will call your veterinarian and personal references. We'll also call you if we have questions or need more information.

3.

Approve Application

We will approve or deny the application. You may be approved to adopt, but not necessarily the same animal you originally applied for.

4.

Meet the Pet

This may be done before applying. You'll be asked to sign an adoption contract and to make a certain donation amount, rather than a set fee.

Additional adoption info

We are passionate about pairing animals in need with loving families who would best suit their individual needs. NOTE: You do not have to apply for a specific animal on your application. You can submit it as a "pre-application" for a certain size, age or breed of animal, and if approved, we can contact you if a possible match arrives at the shelter.
