My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MarLeigh was found as a stray and brought to an open intake shelter. These little ones are rarely nice in an environment like that because they are scared to death and just try to protect themselves. Once her stray hold was over the rescue pulled her. Her behavior was very typical ‘you stay over there and I’ll stay over here and we’ll get along just fine’. Well we know that can only last so long and she came around quickly. She is still like this when meeting new people. MarLeigh doesn’t go out of her way to tell you to back off, but if she’s not ready to be formally introduced to you she’ll let you know. So her type of ideal home: adults only, no cats, she seems to do better with male dogs. She can jump and climb certain types of fences. A fence isn’t a requirement but if you have a four foot high cyclone fence, that won’t work. She’s a smart pup and will really get attached to her person/s, I believe she would do fine as an only dog, but she would need some type of play dates with other pups. She’s crate trained but really doesn’t care for it all that much. I wouldn’t even crate her as much, but her and another female don’t get along at all so free time needs to be split. MarLeigh loves to walk, and is great in the car. She will play with toys, mostly by shaking it like crazy. If I throw one she just looks at me. Someone in her past played with her with their hands so she plays a little mouthy like a puppy is. She will use PP pads, but is not 100% perfect with this. She does pee and poop outside, especially on walks. She likes to sleep under the covers with me. She is also good with sleeping in her crate as well as free in the dining room with other pups. Most of them rotate so when they get adopted it’s easier for them to adapt. Looking for an experienced chi adopter because she can be nippy, and not everyone understands the chihuahuas, and not let them get away with everything then wonder why they run the house! MarLeigh is spayed, up to date on vaccines, heart worm and lyme checked, on monthly preventive and microchipped. We prefer to adopt within a 1 hour drive of DE 19703. After your application is approved we will ask you to come to our area for the first meet, and the 2nd meet and home visit can be done together. Some of the little dogs need more than 1 or 2 meets. It’s going to be hard for them, we really would like it if an adopter can confidently handle them before adoption. Every dog is different, every family is different. Both foster and adopter need to be comfortable before the leash is turned over, on any of our adoptables.
