My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

4/27/23 update: Poodle peoples 🐩 where ya at!?

Our little mini poodle Ohio has really come out of his shell and is looking for a forever home. The original OO in all the dOOdle and pOO mixes, this guy probably fathered unfathomable numbers of dogs in the puppy mill he came from and now finally has his chance to find a real home at last. He’s a young healthy happy 3-4 year old mini, 12lbs full grown and has been neutered, updated on shots, full bloodwork done, had a dental cleaning and is good to go! He’s shy at first and still working on housebreaking and learning to walk on a leash, but bonds fast and does a happy smiling greeting dance once he trusts you. He loves other dogs and a home with at least one other compatible doggie friend is a must to boost his confidence.

Well, our little poodle boy Ohio is getting closer to being white at least. When we hear the word Ohio, we think “puppy mills” (also Pennsylvania, Indiana, Missouri, Kansas… anywhere in the Midwest pretty much) But puppy mills are pretty much always on our mind, and the only thing we think about outside of NJ dogs, and we don’t travel anywhere or do anything besides rescue dogs, so a lot of words make us think of puppy mills to be honest 🤷‍♀️ There have been a few puppy mills in NJ but luckily laws are at least a little tougher here so they were mostly illegal ones that were raided and shut down- the ones this guy came from are USDA licensed legal mass breeding operations 😔

This scared matted mess had lots of dirt, urine, blood, and feces 💩 🤢 staining his coat but now at least we can pet him without feeling the need to immediately shower in bleach. He’s a 5 year old 12lb mini who spent his whole life in a cage in a puppy mill and deserves so much better. He’s been neutered, had a dental, and been fully vetted and is ready to start his search for a home. He had lots of sores and wounds under his mats from being forced to live in a confined space with other unneutered males for so long, but loves other dogs and follows and learns from them. He will be need patience with housebreaking likely (belly bands will be your best bet initially- but if being quickly perfectly trained is a dealbreaker for you then a mill rescue is probably not your best bet. Or a puppy. Or any new dog really, housebreaking is very conditional and takes patience and consistency, so hopefully your love of your dog is more important than your bond with your carpets 😝). He is still learning to walk on a leash, and is a major flight risk if he ever gets loose since he is so skittish at first so extra care will need to be taken. He was excellent for his grooming and vetting and we can tell he wants to be a sweet boy and is going to warm up and bond quickly in a calm home with another compatible role model dog.
