My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Leo or King Leopold if you prefer! He's not necessarily a fancy man, but would definitely love to be the king in some lucky person's home! He's such an affectionate cat and in spite of the challenges he's faced, he never seems to lose that genuine happy go lucky personality. And his favorite place in the house according to his foster mom, is where ever she is, especially if he can curl up on her lap for a good nap.

Leo was suffering from itchy skin for months before he came to RBARI. His head and chest were mostly bald and he was just so itchy, he'd scratch himself bloody just to try to relieve it. And poor man, even a cone didn't stop him from trying to get that pesky itch. Tests showed that he had bacterial and yeast skin infections secondary to the allergies he was clearly battling. With time, proper meds and limited ingredient foods, the King finally has a crown of hair any feline would be proud of.

As if this wasn't enough of a challenge for our handsome King, he also has a heart condition that will need to be monitored. Right now he doesn't need meds for his heart and may not for a long time, but monitoring the condition is of utmost importance to make sure our man stays healthy.

Leo just has so much love to share, and even with his issues, he really is a cat worth sharing your life with. He gives more than any one person can possibly give him and is truly a once in a lifetime cat. He'll leave his pawprints all over your lap and your soul.

More about this shelter

Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge, Inc. is founded on the belief that all animals have a natural right to humane treatment including proper care and safe shelter. Due to overpopulation, there are insufficient homes for most cats and dogs. Some are lucky enough to find temporary shelter and a few even find permanent homes. However it is a devastating fact that the majority are either euthanized or forced to chance life without shelter.

To support our belief and to relieve the unnecessary suffering of animals, we shall:
1.Extend every effort to find, evaluate, and secure good adoptive homes for animals in our care.
2.Provide animals with medical services and behavior therapy to the extent of our ability.
3.Adhere to a “no-kill” policy: animals shall not be euthanized for the purpose of providing space for new animals.
4.Adhere to a 100% spay and neuter policy.
5.Maintain continuing humane education programs and in particular to schools.
