My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

LITTLE TONY

Housetrained: yes
Good with: Dogs, cats, kids

Meet Little Tony! He came in as a stray to a local shelter, was subsequently adopted from there then sadly found himself adrift yet another time! So we had to step in and make sure this little hound finds his way home for good this time!

Tony is estimated at 12 years old, and weighs about 23 pounds. We saw him through the arduous rounds of heartworm treatment, and he was a stoic champ through it all. He does have mild kidney disease which seems to be well controlled with a diet of prescription kidney food. This costs approximately $80 a month. He is very sweet, and loves everyone and everything! Of course, food comes first in that hierarchy, but, after all, he is a beagle. He is very quiet (although I did hear evidence that he can, indeed, howl when we encountered a bunny on a walk). He enjoys a "sniff and stroll," followed by a good long snooze. He likes to nest in a blanket or two on top of his beds.

Tony has gone from absolutely no house training to about 90% success in the three months he's been with his foster family! He sleeps in the family's bed through the night with no incident. If he does stir and move to jump down, that is his signal that he does need to go out. With frequent day outings, he stays pretty much housetrained. He understands our doggy door, so that might be an option to help him get out often enough. He rides like a dream in the car, and does not get car sick.

Little Tony brings a little impishness and delight to our pack! He constantly tries to burrow into the big dogs, and even the cat if she's available! He is generally a quiet and sleepy soul, but has occasional sparks of silly play and joyful dashes out in the sunshine. He would be a sweet and easy addition to any family!

Please read the bio in full for answers to your questions. In the event you have a question that is not covered in the bio, please email info@seniordoghaven.org. If interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application which can be found at https://seniordoghaven.org/adoption-process/.

Please note that because all of our dogs live in foster homes, we are unable to set up meetings with a dog unless we have a completed adoption application on file. Adoptions must be about an hour of Wilmington, DE in order for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in person home visit.
