My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Louise!

Louise is an 8-year-old Pit Bull mix who weighs 63 pounds, and she’s the perfect balance of mellow companion and playful spirit. Friendly, social, and affectionate, Louise greets everyone she meets with her signature wiggles, kisses, and big smile.

She may not have the endless energy of a youngster, but she still loves to romp around the yard, roll in the grass, and even show off her goofy zoomies when the mood strikes. These days, she’s just as happy to enjoy a good play session as she is to settle in for a well-deserved nap by your side.

Louise shows potential to live with other dogs, especially those who share her easygoing style, but she will need a home without cats. If there are kids in her forever home, they should be 10–13 and up. Louise has struggled with smaller children in the past and is more comfortable in a household that can respect her space.

With her sweet, social personality and affectionate nature, Louise is ready to bring joy, love, and plenty of smiles to her forever family.

Come meet Louise at the Humane Society of Summit County, 752 West Portage Trail, Akron, OH 44313, or call us at 330-487-0333 ext. 803 to learn more!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

All of our adoptable animals are up-to-date on all age appropriate vaccinations, spayed or neutered, de-wormed, de-flea and microchipped before adoptions are finalized. All dogs over six months of age receive a temperament assessment by our Certified Professional Dog Trainer to ensure appropriate placement. Also, many animals in our care receive basic obedience training to improve manners and increase adoptability.

We are currently doing adoptions by appointment only. Please contact us by phone at (234) 212-9843 or email at adoptions@summithumane.org, and an adoption counselor will return your message. They will review our adoption process, answer any questions, and tell you more about the animals currently available for adoption at our shelter and in our foster program. If we have a match for you and your family, an appointment will be scheduled to meet the animal.

Additional questions can be directed to our adoption team at (234) 212-9843.

More about this shelter

Since 1968, the Humane Society of Summit County (HSSC) has been the trusted caretaker and advocate for Summit County’s victims of animal abuse, neglect, and abandonment and stray animals suffering from illness and injury. We employ two full-time Humane Officers who respond to emergency calls, investigate animal cruelty, and, as warranted, prosecute offenders. We protect and care for our community’s abused, discarded, and forgotten animals. We strive every day to rehabilitate our rescued animals, find them great homes, and provide them with bright futures.
