My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This wee beauty joined our rescue in March, from NYCACC, just in time to celebrate the warm weather. Camilla came to us as a medical emergency, but it's hard to figure out her backstory. At first, it was reported that she was hit by a car. A "good samaritan" dropped her off at a vet hospital, and then Animal Control Officers brought her to the Brooklyn ACC Shelter.

At Shelter intake, Camilla's bruised pelvis and wobbly gait seemed to support the "hit by car theory" theory, but Xrays showed no recent injury. Something seemed suspicious about Camilla's story that might indicate owner malfeasance.

By the time she reached our house, the bruising had subsided and our vet began to solve the mystery. Second X Rays on Camilla did not show new injuries, but our vet noted a lumbar abnormality, possibly from an old injury. He described her abnormal gait as "duck footing," a condition that occurs in dogs with healed spinal injuries. This is a clear case of "if it walks like a duck, it isn't."

After a short stint of R and R, plus some laser treatments, Camilla has vastly improved, and scampers around our house with her Chihuahua pack, creating all kinds of Chihuahua mayhem. At just 4 years old, she has survived an ordeal, but her spirit is intact and she is full of good humor. She arrived here weighing 5 pounds, and seems to be at a healthy weight. This slender, pretty girl has an all over light tan coat with the breed standard Chihuahua apple shaped head.

Camilla can seem timid at first, but warms up quickly. One she connects with her person, she is quite the cuddlebug and loves to give kisses. Camilla is well suited to an active adult home, or would thrive with an active senior or recent retiree. She is an energetic, happy girl, who enjoys hanging out at home with her people, or traveling. Camilla is well mannered enough to go anywhere. She could easily join a multi-dog home with other small dogs. She has lived easily with a diverse group of foster dogs, and she is gentle enough to be fine with cats.

Camilla is house trained, paper and crate trained. Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during her transition to a new home. She is in optimal health, and has been spayed. She has received routine vaccinations and a negative 4dx test. She has been dewormed, and has been on heartworm and flea/tick prevention.
