Here's what the humans have to say about me:
So you may think that I should have Caterpillar or John Deere stamped on my butt!?! That is because everyone I meet thinks I am a bullDOZER. Okay, maybe not a real bullDOZER, but I do have some girth behind my 80 pounds and I am an American BULLdog! You would think with the name DOZER that I am quite intimidating, but that isn’t quite the case. I am really just an XL marshmallow. I was surrendered to a county animal shelter in southern Indiana with my fur siblings, four chihuahuas. I know, it is a little bit embarrassing, but I think I am their size. I don’t fully understand that I really am a piece of heavy machinery, aka a bull in a china shop. There was no reason given why I was surrendered by my former owner. However, I was extremely underweight when I first arrived. The shelter workers used their tools and got me to a healthy weight and worked diligently advocating for me. Rover Rescue got into the trenches and cleared the way for me to head up north. I am now in a wonderful foster home and am learning how to be a great fur family member. The shelter originally thought I was around the age of 5 years old, but this really nice lady called a vet said, “No way”! She thinks I am between 2 to 3 years old. True to the American Bulldog breed, I am an affectionate, social and energetic kind of guy. I do need plenty of physical and mental exercise to keep me out of trouble. If left to my own devices, I will find ways to entertain myself that you may not appreciate. A fenced in backyard is a must for me. I need to romp and play and explore. If you have a fur baby that loves to wrestle, play tug and play chase, I am all in. I have gotten along with all the dogs that I have been introduced to that have been bigger or smaller than me. If the other dogs decide that they are done exercising, I will find toys and entertain myself. Actually, lots of Nylabones, Kongs and heavy duty super chewers are going to make me and you very happy. I love to walk around with a toy in my mouth. If a 4 legged friend is not available, I would love to play with a 2 legged one instead. While my foster mom was on vacation, I got to stay in a home with children and I did great. The youngest furless friend was 18 months old and we did just fine hanging out. I particularly liked meal time together. Did you know that kids are really messy eaters and they drop food from the table? I was really impressed with my catching skills. No item ever hit the floor. I am told that American Bulldogs are highly intelligent and are notoriously rebellious and stubborn. Don’t believe everything you read just because I like to get my way and choose to have selective hearing on occasion. On the other hand, since I am so smart, I tackled housebreaking like a champ. With a consistent schedule, I am accident free. I do spend my nights and alone time in a crate. I go in without any fuss and settle in quietly. I wait patiently for my family to come back home or get up in the morning. I love to go on walks, but my foster mom uses a pinch collar since I can be a puller. I would love to practice my leash skills with you. I do love my cuddle time and I really match the energy level of the house. One of my favorite activities is sit in the chair and look out the window. I must keep up with what is going around the neighborhood and bark at the dogs who think they want to poop in my yard.
