My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Please read the bio in full for answers to your questions. In the event you have a question that is not covered in the bio, please email info@seniordoghaven.org. If interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application which can be found at https://seniordoghaven.org/adoption-process/.

Please note that because all of our dogs live in foster homes, we are unable to set up meetings with a dog unless we have a completed adoption application on file. Adoptions must be about an hour of Wilmington, DE in order for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in person home visit.

Meet Jade!

Jade is an 11-year-old mystery mutt full of hope for a new forever home. Her foster mom guesses a Lab/Terrier mix, but look at her sweet photos and decide for yourself. Jade was surrendered to a shelter by her owner who said she was blind and refused to eat. It turned out this poor pup had undiagnosed diabetes and high pressure in her eyes that was causing her pain.

Jade was brought into a loving foster home, and after having her left eye removed along with a benign mammary tumor, a dental, and a spay, Jade got a new lease on life. She is completely vaccinated, microchipped, and had all her lab work completed. Jade is now a healthy 46 lbs, her diabetes is well managed, and she does have vision in her remaining eye. She will require twice daily injections for her diabetes and eye drops which she accepts with no problems. The cost for these medications is around $200 a month and she will need to continue to see the eye doctor and vet to ensure her medications are properly maintained.

Jade lives in harmony with big and small dogs, but due to her limited vision, she might give off a low grumble if someone sneaks up on her. She loves being outside in the yard, daily walks, and napping in her favorite chair. Jade is very sweet and loves people. She needs a quieter household where there won’t be a lot of surprises, but would do great with other dogs. Jade is completely housebroken, and cuddles up in her own bed in her foster mom’s room every night. Can you please be the special home this older gal needs?
