My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Adoption Fee:  $300.00

Amaretto is an attractive 3 yo tan female Shepherd weighing approximately 60 lbs. We know little about her past except that she likely gave birth to a litter of pups.  As her name suggests, this girl is intoxicating with her golden coat and striking almond eyes, complete with eyeliner.

When Amaretto initially entered our program, she was quite unworldly.  She has adapted quickly to multiple strange encounters on her daily walks such as loud vehicles, construction chaos, and barking dogs (we are still working on squirrels!).   She truly enjoys the company of friendly canines and will do her best to engage play with those who “take her lure”.  Her play style is very energetic but will respect the boundaries established by her human.  Amaretto is very food focused and will play ‘cafeteria monitor’ with her co-fosters during meal prep.  She also has no hesitation to eat other pack members’ food, especially if they are slow to dine.  Therefore, close supervision will be necessary to enforce appropriate manners and patience with edibles in the company of other dogs.

Amaretto is cautious when meeting some strangers, especially when surprised or in snug quarters, and will often vocalize to keep others at a safe distance.  Confident and calm reassurance that allows her to take initiative to approach the human will successfully diffuse these fears.  Once she knows she’s in the company of friends, she is comfortable being approached and will accept human affection with calm delight. She has a youthful nature that shows on occasion with exuberant puppy-mouthiness and vertical jumps (especially when reuniting with her human) and, like many Shepherds, may try and herd rapidly moving objects.  While she is responding well to corrections, she would do best in a home without small children.

This gal is eager to join you on car rides and will wait patiently while you are away.  When left alone, she settles with her co-fosters.   Given her agile skills, she may try and escape out of open enclosures to search for her person.

In the home setting, she enjoys much of her time chewing on a Nyla bone or laying quietly by your side. This girl will melt you with her soft humble expression as she tries to join you on the couch (she thinks she qualifies as a lap dog) or slumber for belly rubs.  In the evening, she enters her crate where she sleeps quietly all night.  She is housebroken with the use of a dog door. This girl is loaded with delightful personality and would love nothing more than to offer you her devoted affection in the comforts of a loving home.

Cats and small animals unknown.
