My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Good Gracious, Great Balls of Fire! I was lucky to be graced with a cool name like MAVERICK, but I just found out that there is a movie with a handsome naval pilot who shares the same name. Go figure! However, I am told that he can’t hold a candle to my stunning looks. First of all, he is on the short side, supposedly only 5’7” tall. If I stand on my back legs, I can easily tower over him. And let’s talk about my gorgeous coat. My black and brown brindle coat is so sleek and soft. I have brown eyes that will take your breath away. I am still a young (fixed) stud, only about 7 months old and I currently weigh in at 105 pounds. The vet would like to see me get at least another 10 pounds on my slender frame. When asked what my weight may be as an adult, the guesstimate was between 130 to 150 pounds. Yep! I am a big deal! I am a Mastiff possibly mixed with Anatolian Shepherd. My brother and I were surrendered to a county animal shelter in southern Indiana. No reason was given, but more than likely, the family was not able to afford to keep us. I do eat between 6 to 8 cups of kibble a day. I really was in the danger zone until Rover Rescue pulled us both into safety. My brother found his furever home. Now, it is my turn. Since I am still on the young side, I don’t often realize my XXL size. I tend to think that I am a lap dog. I do like to snuggle and personal space is not in my vocabulary. I can still be mouthy when I play. My foster mom makes sure that I have plenty of Nylabones, Kongs and other hard toys available so I don’t use her hand as a chew toy. She does say she is lucky because I don’t clamp down. Due to my size and age, a home with older children (10+) would be preferred. I would love to have a wingman dog like Goose or a girlfriend like Penny to play with in my permanent home. Currently, I am living with 2 dogs, one is 50 lbs and one is 80 lbs, and there have been no dogfights or scuffles of any kind. I do like to romp and play tug of war, but after a few rounds in the yard, I am ready for a nap. At bedtime or when home alone, I do stay in a very large crate. I may whine for a minute or two, but then settle in nicely. My foster parents keep me on a schedule for house training and I have had minimal accidents. I love to go for walks and my foster mom is surprised how well I do on a leash. Of course, I can always use some more practice to fine tune my leash skills. A Top Gun is the best of the best. With lots of love, patience and Flight, I mean Obedience School, I can easily be a Top Gun Family Member. If you would like to learn more about me, MAVERICK, please contact Darla, my foster mom, at 630/406-9405. Please note this is home phone number and will not accept text messages.
