Meet Pongo, a 9 year old Catahoula mix looking for a new adventure partner. He enjoys pack walks, hikes, and runs, but may require guidance due to some seeing and hearing issues. Pongo gets along well with other dogs and loves to play, but would thrive best in a home with a low-key dog that can handle his playful nature. Due to anxious attachment issues, Pongo needs an owner who is frequently home and can invest time in bonding with him. He needs a confident handler and another confident dog in the house.
He is intelligent, attentive, and a quick learner, having recently recovered from a foreign body surgery with no lingering health issues. Love to cuddle? Love, love?This boy is a 45 lb lap dog! Once your application has been received and reviewed, you will be contacted via email or phone by one of our volunteers. After your application is approved, the foster parent for the dog you have selected will contact you to answer any questions you may have and determine if that dog is a good match for your family.
If you have no particular dog in mind, we will be happy to keep your application on file and notify you if the right dog should come into rescue. Catahoula Rescue of New England is an all-volunteer group. Dogs in our program are fostered by volunteers. The foster homes care for our dogs as if they were their own. All dogs have received vaccinations appropriate to age and are spayed or neutered.
Pongo’s adoption donation is $300 which includes Rabies, DHLPP, Bordetella, fecal test, heartworm test, is on preventative, microchip and neuter depending on age at time of adoption. We do not have a physical shelter; all our dogs are fostered in individual foster homes across the New England and Canada.

We have a written application followed by a phone interview. If the applicant is approved past this point then we check 2 personal references as well as their vet reference. If they rent we speak with their landlord as well. If all is well at this point then we do a home check. The final step is a meet and greet where the adopter and the household, including dogs travel to meet the new adoptive dog. If all goes well they can adopt. There is an adoption contract and the adoption fee ranges between $200-400 depending on the fees that we put into the particular dog.
