Cotton is a former stray outdoor cat and although we don’t know what his story is, it’s safe to say he’s had quite an eventful life in his estimated 3-4 years. Cotton found a very kind home that was already providing for some other feral outdoor kitties, and they quickly realized that he was not feral at all! In fact, he LOVES attention!!! Cotton is a talker and will vocally make his presence and wants known. It is believed that Cotton was abandoned at a young age due to his owner moving or passing away. He loves head and neck scratches the most, but you can pet him anywhere (except for the fluffy belly). Cotton has been doing well transitioning to being an indoor only cat, and he would enjoy having access to an outdoor catio or screened in porch/sunroom to bask in the warm sun. Tall cat trees and/or perches near windows are a must! He lives with several other cats and a dog at his foster home. He would do fine with a calm dog that gives him space, but Cotton would prefer to be an only cat. He absolutely loves to play with feather wands, rope/ribbon toys, and red lasers.
Cotton is neutered, dewormed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations.
Cotton has tested FIV(+). FIV is not a death sentence and they often live happy and healthy lives like non-FIV cats. FIV is transmitted through bite wounds that draw blood. They can live in homes with other non-FIV cats, as long as they all get along (and aren’t fighting), and he must remain as an indoor only cat. Because FIV weakens the immune system, regular and routine veterinary care is required, but there is not anything extra or special that has to be done. All pets should receive routine vet care and a quality diet to remain healthy, right?! FIV is species specific, so there is no risk to humans, dogs, or other non-feline species.
