Take the Pet Home
This helps Loved At Last Dog Rescue with pet care costs.
Hi there. My name is PAWLETTE (Sam) and here is a little info about me:
Breed: Spanish Podenco (hound)/Beldi (Saluki/Aidi heritage) mix
Age: 6 years
Gender: Female
Country of Origin: Morocco
Weight: 17 kg
Height: 45 cm
Highlights: happy, playful, dysfunctional front leg, affectionate, head tick, loves people
UPDATE: I have started using my legs again. Not fully normal yet, but this is an encouraging sign that I may regain more use again. Given additional time and perhaps some physiotherapy, I may yet walk better again. https://youtube.com/shorts/iD20Tu_8vqI, another vid on the way.
Imagine a joyful little girl with a smile that never fades! Despite a rough start and some physical challenges, my heart is overflowing with love, and I'm ready for a family that sees my spirit rather than my disability.
Life took a difficult turn in December 2022 when I was found crying in an abandoned garage.
Fighting a terrifying battle with distemper left me malnourished and partially paralyzed.
Dragging my frail body across rocks was once my only way to move, but thanks to my wonderful rescuer, those days are over.
Having fought hard to regain mobility in my back legs, I'm not giving up on my front ones yet!
Happiness is my middle name! As my energy returned, a playful side truly blossomed, and now rolling around in the grass is my favorite thing to do.
Even with a permanent head tic from the distemper, affection comes naturally to me.
Eye contact and physical touch are how I show my gratitude.
Watching me try to use my front legs again recently has been a huge win for everyone cheering me on!
A patient hero who can support my journey would be the perfect match.
Living in a home with a garden or soft playmats will allow me to 'scoot' around safely.
Since physical assistance is needed to get outside for potty time, having a parent who is home most of the time is important.
Sharing my life with a gentle dog or cat sibling would be wonderful, as long as they don't mind that I play from the ground!
Watch me beat the odds! https://youtu.be/gVdOW1foXBE, https://youtu.be/-U3qKLEJAhQ, https://youtu.be/ZaeLWbtTqAU, https://youtu.be/hQWfvwgdHjI
Energy Level: moderate.
I get along with:
Dogs: yes
Cats: yes
Kids: unknown, rescuer says yes, but no video proof
Fears: None observed. Please be patient with me during my transition.
Training:
Leash skills: Limited due to mobility; I am a great candidate for a wagon, stroller, or a future wheelchair.
House trained: Yes! Communicating when it's time to go is something I'm very good at, though I need your help to get outside.
Health notes:
Recovered from a severe neurological disease, though a head tic and mobility challenges remain.
Expecting a long, happy life despite these unique physical quirks.
Regaining more front-leg movement is possible with continued time and physiotherapy.
Vaccinated and microchipped; awaiting vet clearance before being spayed.
My adoption fee is $700.00 CAD plus applicable taxes. My flight to Canada will likely be to Toronto, so a cargo fee from there to Vancouver will be required, if so. But if a flight is found to Vancouver, that is included in my adoption fee.
Disclaimer: It is important for all applicants to visit our website, http://www.lovedatlastdogrescue.ca/adopting/ and read about Loved at Last Dog Rescue.
Information included in the profile is provided to us from the international rescuer or local fosters. LALDR does not have access to overseas dogs and cannot always verify the accuracy of their descriptions. Every dog is an individual and can act differently in different situations based on the person adopting them and the environment in which they live.
Please Note: LALDR highly encourages adopters to research some local dog trainers before their dog arrives. Although a 1-on-1 trainer is often not needed, it is good to have someone in mind in case any problematic behaviours arise. Most bad behaviours can be modified if caught early enough, so make sure to nip undesirable behaviours in the bud before they become serious problems.
Basic training should be taken seriously, but should not begin until your dog is well settled in - at least a couple of weeks. After you feel your new dog is relaxed and comfortable in their new home, check out training courses in your local area. Even basic beginner courses like those taught at a local pet store can have a huge benefit in helping your dog learn to socialize and get used to being in public situations, all with the added benefit of strengthening their bond with you.
While most dogs find escorting passengers flying directly to Vancouver, some will find flights through Toronto or Montreal. In that case, additional fees will apply to fly your dog to Vancouver by cargo. Unaccompanied cargo costs within Canada range from $350 - $550 depending on the size of the dog. LALDR will be as transparent as possible with you regarding these costs.
The age and breed of a dog is usually an educated guess, so we are not able to guarantee the accuracy of age or breed of our dogs.
Normally, we will not approve adoptions to homes with children under 12 years of age. However if a dog has been determined to be good with children we will approve applicants with children 8 years or older. More information can be found on our website.

As adopters of overseas dogs will be taking their dog home from the airport, they have a couple of weeks to decide if the dog is a fit.
