Tank is a very handsome and laid-back, 15-1/2-year-old tabby gentleman who came from a very loving home. He developed diabetes, and when his previous family determined that they could no longer provide the care he needed, they made the difficult decision to surrender him to HART. We can see how much he was loved because of how he is around our staff, volunteers, and visitors alike! He loves to be held, and will occasionally let you hold him like a baby. He also enjoys playtime--especially with string toys, so he can make sure he is spending as much time as he can with the people around him! When he sees you coming, his eyes light up as he waits to receive some loving.
Tank is doing very well and is relaxed around his feline roommates. He is a little overweight, tipping the scales at about 16 pounds, and we recommend that he loose some weight. His diabetes is being easily managed with twice-daily insulin injections and a low-carb, canned food only diet (in our shelter, we feed Fancy Feast Classic Pate). We will require that his adopter have a well-established relationship with a veterinarian, because we are committed to the health and happiness of Tank and his new guardians even after they leave our shelter. HART's Medical Team will provide his adopters training in the care of a diabetic cat, along with 1 insulin pen, appropriate syringes, and a blood-glucose testing kit. And, thanks to a very generous supporter, we will also provide you with $100 in food. In order to make these preparations, he won't be able to go home on the same day that you meet him.
Consider giving this awesome kitty a new retirement home. We know you will be smitten when you meet Tank, and he will be a wonderful kitty companion for his lucky adopter! Please submit an application and come meet this lover in Room 4.
