My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This is Wicket (yes, like the Ewok)! He is guessed to be around 9-10 years old and just the sweetest dog ever! He absolutely loves his humans and is friendly with all other animals… big and little dogs, cats, small rodents, etc.! When I say friendly he wags his tail and loves to greet and follow around… not a lot of ‘play’ but loves other animals for company :) He really enjoys his walks and needs a home where 1-2 walks a day for at least 20 min each are the norm… smelling is his jam :) He loves to go anywhere and everywhere with us… enjoys car rides, hanging at the beach, riding in the basket on my bike, etc. :) Wicket is a sensitive soul… he doesn’t like change and likes a consistent routine. He is a ‘silent stressor’. His tummy gets easily upset with any changes and he is on a special diet with some probiotics and takes Pepcid about 30 min prior to any meals. But, when on a good routine with a predictable day and food he does really well! He also stresses when he sees people ‘leave’. He struggled the first few days he was with us with loud howling and barking, but now he is fine when we are at work (we have cameras so we check in on him)… but we never let him see us leave, have the TV on, and we never leave him more than 6 hours! Wickett has a little hitch in his get along so stairs can be a challenge and he needs a little assist to get on furniture for snuggle time. He definitely takes a little TLC with meal prep and when leaving, but other than that he is just an adorable, loving, sweet dog and is ready for his furever family:)

More about this rescue

Lionel's Legacy is a San Diego based senior dog rescue and elementary humane education program. We provide a last chance for senior dogs entering the shelter systems in both San Diego and Los Angeles. We solely rely on fosters to care for our seniors temporarily while looking for their furever home or as permanent hospice fosters when the need arises.

We also believe in early education as a means of preventing pet overpopulation. As a second grade teacher at Central elementary in San Diego, I see first hand the difference educating our brilliant young minds can make.

Lionel's Legacy- Saving ONE senior dog at a time and educating MANY young minds to leave a legacy of compassion and advocacy!
