Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Harley is a phoenix in a dog's body. She almost quite literally rose from fire and ashes, and now is born anew, ready for life to begin. Almost a month ago, on Aug. 1, Harley's home went up in flames. She suffered respiratory distress and worsening existing skin issues, and had an extended vet stay before coming to us. And while her scars tell a story of hardship, they also tell one of healing thanks to her fiery spirit.
Harley is a 4+ year-old Great Pyrenees/boxer mix. Her six small puppies and an older one from a previous litter were also rescued from the fire and have already found wonderful homes. And, lucky for Harley, she's now spayed and can be a puppy again herself. She's understandably still scared and nervous at times, especially when meeting new people. But, when given a little time to decompress and trust, she's a super sweet, friendly, happy-go-lucky and well-behaved girl. She's even enjoyed playing with her last puppy to go home, and has made other adult dog friends here. She lived with cats in her previous home and seems fine with those she's met here. Harley loves going for walks and is great on the leash. Sometimes, when she's feeling really good, she gets zoomies and just wants to run and play with a happy, goofy grin on her face.
Harley is spayed, microchipped and up to date on vaccines. We're still working on getting her skin better. If you want to help this phoenix spread her wings, fill out an application at www.secondchanceas.org/adopt or at the sanctuary any time we're open.
