Riley is a treasure! He lost the home he had since puppyhood due to no fault of his own. His owners had to give up all of their pets when they lost their home. His housemates were adopted but Riley just sat in the shelter with little interest. Since coming to CO, he has warmed up to his foster family very quickly and loves to play with his much younger foster sister. You would never guess he is 9+ years old and has had a back surgery (in 2020 we were told). He moves around with ease and gets up and down the stairs just fine. However, we aren’t letting him jump off the bed or couch as a precautionary measure and neither should his new owners. He loves to follow his humans everywhere they go with his tail always wagging, and his favorite thing to do is to cuddle up next to you on the couch and be pet and scratched. Riley is housetrained, however, he will need a little time to adjust to a new environment and routine and may have some potty accidents. He has only had one accident in his foster home. He sleeps quietly through the night in his kennel but would love to sleep in the big bed as well. Riley is not very food motivated, so he needs a little enticement with some canned food or pumpkin added to his kibble. He doesn't seem to know any cues but is working on learning "sit". Riley would do best with someone home during the day with a fenced outdoor space but could adjust to an apartment situation. The biggest hurdle will be getting his potty schedule down and being on a leash. Riley is fine with cats and dogs but we do not recommend children under 12. Riley will low growl if he disapproves of your handling skills or unnecessary collar grabs. He’s very polite about it and should be given some space since he does tell you so politely. We think Riley could be a Corgi/Dachshund/Terrier/Bassett mixey. He’s approx 30#. Riley is neutered, utd on vaccs, chipped, and HW-.
