My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Nelson, a charming Pit bull mix with a heart full of potential! Despite his past challenges, Nelson is on a journey of overcoming his fear of strangers and discovering the joys of trust and companionship.

Nelson has a special preference for women and requires some extra hot dog treats to build trust with unfamiliar men. But don't let that discourage you, as this loyal pup has shown incredible progress and has proven himself to be a sweetheart around those he feels comfortable with.

One look into Nelson's expressive eyes will reveal a playful and adventurous spirit. He absolutely adores the company of other dogs, engaging in lively wrestling matches and never missing an opportunity to play fetch. In fact, he's even mastered the skill of throwing the toy up in the air for himself to catch - quite the entertainer!

Although Nelson has had limited exposure to cats in the shelter environment, he has shown no interest in them thus far. His focus is on having the "zoomies" and enjoying quality time with his human companions. Nelson is happiest when he can curl up in his person's lap, basking in their affection and showering them with sweet kisses.

Nelson has the potential to be an exceptional guard dog, but he needs a patient and understanding family who will give him the time and space he needs to acclimate to new environments. Taking things slow will allow Nelson to fully blossom into the confident and loving dog he is meant to be.

If you're seeking an incredible companion who will adore you wholeheartedly once trust is established, Nelson is the one for you. Embrace Nelson's journey, and he will undoubtedly bring immeasurable joy and love to your home.

Nelson is an All-star dog, his adoption appointment includes a discussion with our Training Team, and he will go home with her very own no-pull-harness and a few enrichment goodies to help get him off to a good start! To schedule an appointment to meet Nelson, email info@ahconnects.org (please include your name and phone number), and the staff will be happy to help you!

Our dogs and puppies go home spayed/neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested (7 months and over), and up to date on core vaccines, heartworm, flea, and tick preventatives. Their adoption also includes a free-vet exam at one of our participating veterinarians.
