My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

URGENT COURTESY POST

Canelo was abandoned by his owners when they moved and he ended up in the shelter where he was put on the kill list because he was stressed there. Luckily, he was rescued.

He has a sweet nature with a happy, goofy personality.

Canelo's foster has stage 4 cancer and he needs a new foster or adopter ASAP.

He’s an amazing boy who we can’t believe hasn’t been swooped up!

He is friendly to every person and dog he meets, and with his low prey drive he may be OK with cats, too. He loves small dogs, and his best friend is his Papillon mix foster brother.

At 85 lbs, he's not technically a lap dog, but don't tell Canelo that. He's surprisingly nimble, strong, loves to run and sprint in an open area, and actually skips on walks. He seems to love children. That being said, a large, strong dog like him can easily knock over a small child unintentionally during play or excitement.

Canelo is about 3-4 years old. He walks well in a harness, knows the commands sit, down, and off. His is extremely food motivated making him easy to train, and his off leash recall is strong.

Canelo comes spayed/neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and dewormed.

A one week trial is also an option to see if it is a good fit.

More about this rescue

We are a non-profit rescue organization who helps rescue dogs and sometimes other animals from Contra Costa Animal Services as well as other local shelters; usually the scared, overlooked or often the ones off the euthanasia list. We also rescue dogs who have been injured or abandoned trying to keep them from having to go into the shelter after looking for an owner. We then place them in foster homes to decompress and learn to be part of a family as well as learn structure and boundaries. If needed and we can, we also have trainers that help prepare our dogs for adoption.
