My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Scooby Duke may seem a bit shy at first, but don't let that fool you - he's a sweetheart who warms up quickly and craves your attention. He's a true lover of treats, sunbathing, and, most of all, toys that he can play with for hours on end. This well-behaved pup is both crate trained and housebroken, making him the perfect addition to any home. One important note: Scooby Duke needs to be your one and only fur baby--no cats or dogs for this guy. If you're looking for a loyal companion who's as fun-loving as he is affectionate, Scooby Duke might just be your perfect match. Come meet him and let your home be filled with his joy and love!

Notes from foster: Scooby Duke is a sweet little soul! We think he must be made of the densest material on the planet because he's somehow 50 pounds but comes in a rather small package. It must be hard carrying his big ol' blockhead around, because Scooby can often be found snoozing peacefully and/or sunbathing on the couch. One of his favorite activities is gazing excitedly out the window, keeping careful watch over the neighborhood happenings. He also loves playing with toys and sniffing all the things on walks! Scooby is one of the easiest fosters we've had - he's 100% housebroken, crate trained, and non-destructive.

More about this shelter

The Maryland SPCA connects wonderful pets to loving owners. We are not affiliated with any national animal organization, and we do not receive any government or United Way funding. Our mission is to prevent cruelty and neglect of animals through fostering the humane relationship between animals and people. We operate primarily in the Greater Baltimore Metropolitan area.

To make sure that our dogs and cats do not contribute to the pet overpopulation problem, every one is spayed or neutered before going into a new home. The cost is included in the adoption fee, as are the costs of shots and other necessary care. In addition, a free Positive Pooch class is available to our dog adopters.

There is no set time limit for how long an animal can remain in our adoption program. As long as an animal maintains general good health and a sound temperament, we keep him or her until adopted. We pride ourselves on providing premium care to the animals in a clean, pleasant environment. Our adoption staff works diligently to pair up adopters with the best animal match for their homes and lifestyles.

We transport animals from other shelters to our adoption center to help more animals get adopted. We also help pet owners find new homes for their pets so their animals don’t need to enter shelter care.
