My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Mylo Eli is a 3 year old, 11 pound terrier who came to Camo from Baytown Animal Shelter. This little guy can be a bit shy of new people and environments at first but once he gets to know you, he really shows his sweet and playful side! Mylo Eli would do best in an adult only home, that is patient with him and allows him to open up at his own pace. Take a chance on this little guy and he is sure to steal your heart, Mylo loves to give kisses and adores head scratches. He also does well with other dogs. Mylo Eli is super sweet, good on a leash, loves toys and fetch, and can even sit! Mylo is fully vetted and ready to find his furever home. Mylo lost an eye in a dog fight. The other dog started it, Mylo wasn't to blame.

Mylo is a very sweet, loving dog. He takes time to trust people but when he does, he is quite affectionate. He came to trust me in about 2 weeks. I was his primary caregiver-the person he saw the most and the only constant for him-and we lived in a fairly small apartment. I worked from home some days but would go to the office 2-4 days a week and be away typically for 9 hours. He did very well independently during this time. Initially, I left him in his crate, and eventually, we got to a point where I trusted him to be free in my home and he behaved wonderfully. Mylo loves to play (tug of war, fetch) go on long walks (and runs/sprints), and car rides. He is a good walker, very excited at first but will settle in and stop pulling. He is also good in public places like restaurants, markets, and parks. He does not react to other dogs barking. He shows some curiosity in people and dogs and is generally calm when doing so. Sometimes, with bigger dogs, he will become a bit more erratic. He has learned obedience commands including come, sit, lay down, stay, stand, high-five, and spin. He became very protective of me once he trusted me. This showed up in ways including barking at sounds outside (voices, knocks on doors, etc.), barking at people coming in the door or approaching the door once inside, barking at people when they came close to me or touched me (hug, handshake, etc.), barking at people in public who approached me in some way or were simply near by (servers at restaurants, maintenance men at my apartment), and biting at people if they sat beside me (not always but often enough). These barking and biting tendencies that come from, in my opinion, a protective nature rather than an aggressive nature. The protection was also most often and most passionately displayed against men.

He also has guarding tendencies, perhaps rooted in general anxiety. This applies to anything he is actively fixated on. For example, when he is chewing on a toy, eating his food, or has grabbed an object that he should not have (sock on the floor, garbage on the street, etc.). If even the primary caregiver tries to take this object from him, he is likely to bite.

Mylo needs an adopter who is calm and patient and can give him a comfortable, loving environment that is conducive for working on easing his anxieties. He is so good-natured and is deserving of a happy, peaceful home but will need some encouragement to trust and relax.

More about this rescue

CAMO Rescue is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that offers life, health, and a forever home. We specialize in dogs that other rescues can’t or won’t take due to fearful nature or medical needs. We primarily rescue ‘euthanasia listed’ animals that are in immediate danger of death. We provide shots, spay/neuter, microchip, foster homes, food, medical treatment and love to dogs that are abandoned, unwanted or otherwise in need. We never euthanize an animal to make room for another. In addition to caring for our dogs and finding the best possible home for them, we provide education to the community; encouraging and promoting responsible pet ownership. If needed, our rescue dogs are retrained to socialize in an adoptive loving family. We have had phenomenal success, and amazing support from our community. We believe that animals, as living creatures are entitled to a quality life, respect and compassion. Since humans have domesticated animals, we have a moral and ethical responsibility to care for them. We are partnered with many Shelters to help them reach the same goal.
