My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Adoption Area: East Tennessee

Stanley needs:
-Adult home with humans steady on their feet due to my small size
-Someone home during the day to continue working on my house-training
-If there are other dogs in the home, would be best if they are not too rambunctious since I am tiny and a senior

I’m Stanley. I have a quiet, calm, little-old-man personality in my 6-pound Chihuahua mix body. I’m a neutered male about 12-14 years old — you know Chihuahuas are the longest-lived breed and I hopefully have many more years ahead of me! When I was surrendered to a shelter I had not had my nails trimmed in YEARS. As a result, I could only walk a few feet before I needed to rest. I have been rehabbing in my foster home and can now comfortably go around the block!

Now about my looks…I’m gray and white. I have a “cauliflower” ear from a persistent ear infection in my past. My vet says it’s all clear now, but foster mom thinks I don’t have much hearing there, so I act as though I can’t locate the source of some sounds. My eyes are somewhat cloudy and my vision is not highly acute, but I see perfectly well for my daily life and get around in the house and neighborhood. Then there is my smile….you may have noticed that I sometimes stick my tongue out. I mean no disrespect, but I only have 5 teeth so keeping it inside my mouth is challenging! I’m a champ when it comes to bathing and nail trims. I have a great appetite and my fur is almost grown back from a bad case of fleas.

SBRET has made sure that I’m heartworm-(and all those other ones, too)-negative, on flea/tick/heartworm preventative, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations. I have had all 5 of my teeth cleaned, too! My heart and lungs sound great, my knees are good. I have a very sweet disposition, friendly, if initially shy with all people, cats, and other small dogs.

Here in my foster home I get lots of walks, a cozy crate beside the big bed, good small-bite dry kibble, and have made friends with other small- and medium-sized dogs. I totally love visiting with the cat who lives here. I’m exceptionally quiet for a Chihuahua; my foster mom has never heard me bark! Now that my nails are a normal length I have become more active and happy.

As might be inferred from my sadly neglected state on arrival to SBRET, my house-training was neglected, too. Now my foster mom takes me outside about every hour and I do my thing right away. When my foster mom is away or at night, I happily burrow in blankets in my crate or exercise pen. I love being near my foster mom and snuggling.

I’m still getting used to my leash and harness, but I so want to make my person happy. Can I come to your house to live? My adoption fee is $100.
