My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MEET BLUE!

This stunner is named Blue (though she's more red)! Blue is around 8 years old and we originally met her back in 2019 when she was surrendered to Philly's animal control shelter due to her family becoming homeless. We were able to help provide Blue temporary foster care until her original family was able to secure housing. Fast forward to 2023 and Blue was returned to the rescue due to further housing issues.

Blue is a hilarious, kangaroo of a dog. She's always happy to see her humans and will dance around in delight when she sees you. Her favorite things to do are go for walks and take in every smell she comes across, chasing soccer balls (and rarely giving them back), going for car rides, and snuggling up on the couch. She's a strong girl who weighs around 80 lbs. Her foster family walks her on a no-pull Freedom Harness to help her not pull so hard on walks but she does tend to still pull. Blue LOVES to play! Any kind of toy is the best kind of toy. While in the yard, she'll do zoomies so fast it's hard to believe she's considered a senior! We call her a "flash dance" player because she'll freeze, do a little spin, freeze again, and so on. This girl will have you laughing all day long, then lay her head in your lap while winding down for the night.

Blue does have a couple behavior quirks to keep in mind. While she enjoys interacting with other dogs (and even cats!), once she is comfortable in a space, she will begin guarding items and spaces that she considers high value such as food, toys, and her crate. She will start tussles over them. Because of this we recommend Blue not live with other pets. In addition to guarding items from other pets, Blue can also be a little protective of her favorite humans. While she usually loves meeting most people, she may growl, grumble, bark at strangers while on walks or strangers coming into her home if she's uncomfortable. That said, Blue is an excellent listener! She's super smart, super obedient, and is eager to please. She is crate trained and enjoys spending time in her crate. Should a new person be coming over, it's easy to ask Blue to go in her crate so she has her own safe space. She is currently living with children and adores them but we recommend she go to a home with older kids due to her size and bounciness. Blue is completely housebroken and great about holding it while you're at work!

Blue may need a special type of adopter but she's a special type of dog! With a little bit of structure, she is the sweetest, goofiest, most loving pup. She is the definition of Man's Best Friend. She may have a couple quirks, but don't we all?

Blue has been medically evaluated and proven to be a healthy girl! She is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. Interested in adopting her? Visit cityofelderlylove.org to complete an online adoption questionnaire or email us at info@cityofelderlylove.org!

More about this rescue

Operating as an independent subsidiary of Citizens for a No-Kill Philadelphia, City of Elderly Love is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal rescue dedicated to saving and enriching the lives of adoptable senior pets in the Philadelphia area. Utilizing volunteer foster homes, City of Elderly Love aims to rescue these animals from potential euthanasia at area animal shelters as well as prevent older animals from entering the shelter-system in the first place, when possible. City of Elderly Love also provides palliative and hospice care when needed. Through creative marketing and community events, City of Elderly Love works to place its adoptable pets into loving adoptive homes.
