My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MEET FREDDIE!

Meet the total package: Freddie! Freddie joined the rescue after being found as a stray in Philadelphia and brought to the animal control shelter. We don’t know much about his past as he didn’t have a chip or any identification. He was in rough shape and extremely emaciated but despite his condition, Freddie was so amazingly sweet and happy with every interaction! He was an easy addition to the rescue and his foster home!

Freddie is here to prove that age is just a number! We guess him to be somewhere around 10+? This sweet senior is full of life, very spunky, and determined to make every moment count! He will greet you with a wagging tail and plenty of cuddles, whether you’ve been gone 5 minutes, 5 days, or 5 hours. Freddie is very dog friendly! He’s done well meeting both male and female dogs and enjoys romping around with them. Because he’s hard of hearing, Freddie doesn’t always hear his foster sibling growl if he’s getting too close to her personal space- he’d love a patient foster sibling who doesn’t mind a clumsy, goofy dog’s company!

In the house, Freddie is very much a Velcro dog. Whether you’re going outside, to the kitchen, or even the bathroom, Freddie would love to come along! With that said- he does well alone and doesn’t make a sound! He’s been house trained since Day One! He has yet to have one single accident in the house. He is, however, a silly dog who is very curious in household items like the trash can or the toilet which he can investigate and dig around in so you may want to keep them closed. Freddie LOVES his pets and cuddles. His favorite spot is in your arms staring into your eyes with his tail gently wagging.

Freddie has been fully vetted since coming to the rescue. He is doing very well for his age and despite the condition he joined us in! He’s on a daily joint medication to help his crunchy old man joints, and wears little booties in the house to avoid slipping on the hardwood floor. He may not need them ongoing as he's getting stronger every day. His main focus now is gaining weight! Freddie gets 4 smaller meals a day with the hopes of gaining about 10 pounds to get him to a normal weight for a dog his size. He's doing great packing on the pounds now and will continue to do so! He may be a little hard of hearing but this doesn’t hold him back at all! He responds to a whistle or a clap, and otherwise, we find he’s a happy boy not being able to hear too much of the hustle and bustle outside of the house. Freddie is such a sweet but resilient soul. We don’t know what his past consisted of, but we know his future is filled with a warm bed and loving cuddles. Freddie isn’t asking for much in his forever home- he needs cuddles, lots of love, and regular meals!

Freddie is available for adoption through City of Elderly Love! He is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. Interested in adopting him? Visit cityofelderlylove.org to complete an online adoption questionnaire or email us at info@cityofelderlylove.org!

More about this rescue

Operating as an independent subsidiary of Citizens for a No-Kill Philadelphia, City of Elderly Love is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal rescue dedicated to saving and enriching the lives of adoptable senior pets in the Philadelphia area. Utilizing volunteer foster homes, City of Elderly Love aims to rescue these animals from potential euthanasia at area animal shelters as well as prevent older animals from entering the shelter-system in the first place, when possible. City of Elderly Love also provides palliative and hospice care when needed. Through creative marketing and community events, City of Elderly Love works to place its adoptable pets into loving adoptive homes.
