My name is Elsa and I came here on 10/3 with my sone Luigi. Since I'm a senior, any major medical needs I might have as I age is being donated by The Helping Paw Project ---as long as you use one of the vets they work with. (Shots, nails, and routine vet visits are not included.) I'm a healthy girl, but for the future, that's a great deal! I would love for us two to go home together...but if that isn't possible, I think we can learn to adjust.
Now...let me tell you more. We were picked up as strays and our owners could no longer care for us. But, they did a nice job training us. I am a sweet, little pittie. I'm only halfway up to your knees. I walk well on a leash, take treats gently, and love people. I'm not fond of cats and I'm iffy with other dogs, so I'll be best as an only pet. My dream home will have a family who will cuddle me and let me snooze on a snuggly bed or blanket. I'd love a fenced yard, or folks who will take me on a leash to go potty. If you are looking for a pretty petite, affectionate girl who knows how to obey, I'm a good pick!

We welcome donations of cat litter, Purina cat and dog food, martingale collars, leashes, peanut butter, and more. Use our address for shipping from Amazon, Chewy or other site. Or drop off during business hours! Thank you!

Their adoption process
1.
Visit the Facility and Find a Pet
Most cats roam free in cat rooms. Dogs are in pens, but we are happy to get them out for a meet and greet with you and your other pets
2.
Submit Application
In most cases, applications are reviewed immediately.
3.
Sign Adoption Contract
If your application is approved immediately, you can fill out the adoption contract right away.
4.
Pay Fee
Adoption fees are $100 for cats, and $175-220 for dogs. Includes spay/neuter, vaccinations and microchip! $12 for tag if Macoupin resident.
5.
Take the Pet Home
If dogs/cats are spayed/neutered, they can go home with you same day. If not, arrangements will be made.
Additional adoption info
Our stray animals are held 10 days to see if the owner will claim them. If no one claims the animal, the animal is put up for adoption. We also accept owner surrendered animals (for a fee) if space allows. Also...Due to Illinois state law, no animals can be adopted without being fixed first. So, if the pet you select is spayed/neutered, you can take it home right away. If not, adoption will be finalized after our next spay/neuter clinic.

We are a rural county animal control facility, located about 1 hour from both St. Louis, MO and Springfield, IL. Unfortunately, we are almost always at full capacity---meaning 30+ dogs and even more cats. With less than 46,000 people in our entire county, we welcome out-of-town adopters.
We also welcome relationships with rescues who are willing to take transfers. We need you!
