Meet Midnight! Gorgeous Midnight was picked up as a stray in March in Carlinville. Although her picture was seen by over 9500 people, no one claimed her!! To understand her better, we sent her with a trainer for a couple of days, and here's what she said:
"Midnight is a high-energy dog who is anxious to please. She listens well and will sit on command without a treat, although she is very food motivated! This girl has a high prey drive and will play fetch for at least 10 minutes without getting tired. Midnight will be an EXCELLENT dog for any type of dog sport: such as fly ball, agility, nose work, etc. She would ALSO be an amazing WORKING DOG, such as a herding dog, drug dog or search and rescue dog. Her enthusiasm, athletic abilities and smaller size makes her a perfect working dog. PLUS, she rides very well in the car--surprisingly relaxed and at ease. Midnight had separation anxiety if left totally alone. BUT, the next day, in the company of our other calm dog, she was totally at ease when we left them both in a room and didn't damage anything. So, another dog in the household will be helpful to Midnight. It appears that Midnight had not had a lot of experience in living in a home, so she needs to learn manners. She is very smart!! With consistent training and an outlet to exercise, Midnight will be a loving companion. Her energy just needs to be funneled in the correct way." 🐾🐾 Midnight has been with kids and infants and was indifferent to them. She has been very outgoing and friendly to all adults she meets. If you are looking for a smart, very active dog that wants to please, learn and play, Midnight is the perfect choice! Did we mention she does well with baths?

In many cases, you can take the pet home the same day, so come prepared. :-) No need to email us prior to making an appointment, unless you have a specific question. We welcome donations of cat litter, Purina cat and dog food, martingale collars, leashes, peanut butter, and more. Use our address for shipping from Amazon, Chewy or other site. Or drop off during business hours! Thank you!

Their adoption process
1.
Visit the Facility and Find a Pet
Most cats roam free in cat rooms. Dogs are in pens, but we are happy to get them out for a meet and greet with you and your other pets
2.
Submit Application
In most cases, applications are reviewed immediately.
3.
Sign Adoption Contract
If your application is approved immediately, you can fill out the adoption contract right away.
4.
Pay Fee
Adoption fees are $100 for cats, and $175-220 for dogs. Includes spay/neuter, vaccinations and microchip! $12 for tag if Macoupin resident.
5.
Take the Pet Home
If dogs/cats are spayed/neutered, they can go home with you same day. If not, arrangements will be made.
Additional adoption info
Our stray animals are held 10 days to see if the owner will claim them. If no one claims the animal, the animal is put up for adoption. We also accept owner surrendered animals (for a fee) if space allows. Also...Due to Illinois state law, no animals can be adopted without being fixed first. So, if the pet you select is spayed/neutered, you can take it home right away. If not, adoption will be finalized after our next spay/neuter clinic.

We are a rural county animal control facility, located about 1 hour from both St. Louis, MO and Springfield, IL. Unfortunately, we are almost always at full capacity---meaning 30+ dogs and even more cats. With less than 46,000 people in our entire county, we welcome out-of-town adopters.
We also welcome relationships with rescues who are willing to take transfers. We need you!
