My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

"I'm Jackson, a stately 8-year-old pup. Folks say I have the most enchanting eyes and a perpetual grin that lights up my graying face. My journey here started when a kind soul brought me to the Staunton PD, saying I was a stray. Hard to understand how this happened to me, but praying someone will take a shine to an old dog with lots to offer. My hobbies are commands like sit and down, and nothing brings me more joy than belly rubs! I'm a big fan of rolling on my back and showing off my playful side; it's my way of keeping things light and entertaining. Now, when it comes to other furry friends, I have to admit I'm not fond of those feline creatures. So, the perfect home for me would be one without any other pets. BUT...., if you have a doggy companion, let's arrange a meet-and-greet to see if we hit it off.
I'm a gentle soul, great with kids, and always ready for some fun and love. If you're looking for a charming older gentleman with lots of love to give, please consider me: Jackson."

We are a rural animal control and depend on both local and out-of-county folks to adopt our pets. We appreciate you looking!

He is a good dog but once he saw the cats in the lobby, it was hard for him to focus on anything else. e came to us bc someone dropped him off at the Staunton saying he was a stray.

Jackson knows sit, down and loves belly rubs. Definitely NO cats for this fella.

If dogs/cats are spayed/neutered, they can go home with you same day. If not, arrangements will be made.

Additional adoption info

Our stray animals are held 10 days to see if the owner will claim them. If no one claims the animal, the animal is put up for adoption. We also accept owner surrendered animals (for a fee) if space allows. Also...Due to Illinois state law, no animals can be adopted without being fixed first. So, if the pet you select is spayed/neutered, you can take it home right away. If not, adoption will be finalized after our next spay/neuter clinic.

More about this shelter

We are a rural county animal control facility, located about 1 hour from both St. Louis, MO and Springfield, IL. Unfortunately, we are almost always at full capacity---meaning 30+ dogs and even more cats. With less than 46,000 people in our entire county, we welcome out-of-town adopters.

We also welcome relationships with rescues who are willing to take transfers. We need you!
