My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meadow is a clever, curious, and playful ten-year-old girl. With the energy of a dog half her age, she explores, investigates, fetches, and zooms her way through life. She’s 10lbs of fun and love who finds herself looking for a new home after her previous owner could no longer afford to take care of a dog.

Environment

Meadow is fully crate trained and house trained if kept on a consistent routine. She will let you know when she needs to go outside by pacing around. When not in her exercise pen or sleeping in her bed, she is let out every couple of hours. She needs to have ample time to do her business, otherwise she will occasionally do the dachshund thing and poop inside.

Meadow needs a fenced yard to get her exercise so lots of 1:1 playtime in her own yard will be needed to stimulate her brain and tucker her out. She also enjoys taking long walks on leash and on occasion has been reactive to animals and people she encounters. Her favorite things to play are fetch and tug. She's also been known to help you “recycle” by tearing up her toys and bedding. Her foster mom has found that a long-lasting chew bone will deter this behavior and helps reduce her anxiety. Her new home will need to be one without shared walls as she’s quite communicative at times. Some of this energy likely comes from a place of anxiety and we’re hoping that once she’s settled this will improve. She will need time to adjust to a new home and will need to receive lots of positive encouragement and love to earn your trust.

Pets & People

Meadow loves her people but not new people and will take time to warm up when visitors arrive. However, she will calm down and allow affection after a while. She is fine with older, respectful dogs in her foster home.

Health

Meadow is on anti-anxiety medication and will ideally have people around more often than not to assuage her anxiety.

Location

Meadow is available for adoption from Westminster, Maryland. Please email Arushfree@icloud.com with any questions or complete an adoption application at the button above. The adoption fee for Meadow is $200.00.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

6 Step Adoption Process

1) Application - (While we encourage you to let us know on your application if one of our dogs has captured your interest, we use this simply as a guide for matching and your listing of specific dog in no way implies claim to this particular dog)

NOTE: Adoption Applications expire 6 months from the date of receipt. If you have already submitted an Adoption Application and it has been longer than 6 months, you will need to fill out a new Adoption Application.

2) Reference Checks - All references will be checked prior to home visit. We will contact your current vet, if you have one, for a reference.

3) Application Review - Processor reviews the application, calls the vet if you have one, verifies vaccinations and spay/neuter. We email personal references (if email is provided) or call them if necessary. Email is best since as references can respond when they are available.

4) Home Visit - A volunteer will come to your home to visit with you and discuss care of dachshunds. Also, the volunteer will look for any potential problems and check to be sure that your fencing is secure. Your home visit does not mean you have been approved.

5) Approval - After the above steps have been completed all your information will be reviewed and a decision will be made about adoption. If at this point you are approved to adopt, LPDR will help guide you to the appropriate dog for your family.

6) Contract - For the protection of the dogs we place, everyone that adopts a dachshund from LPDR will be required to sign an adoption contract.

Are you looking for an opportunity to foster a dachshund? Fostering is our transitional step from a shelter/surrender to a forever home. During this time it’s important that we give each dachshund a safe environment where it can learn to trust again, to heal and to learn how to become a loving family member. Many of the dachshunds that we pull from shelters or receive from an owner surrender just need a temporary home until their new forever home can be found. Please go to our website (www.LittlePawsDR.org) to learn more.

More about this rescue

Little Paws Dachshund Rescue is a foster-based, non-profit animal rescue that specializes in finding permanent homes for dachshunds, dachshund mixes, and other small dogs. It is LPDR’s goal to identify abandoned, mistreated, or homeless dogs and oversee their treatment and well being while working to find loving owners for those in our care. We strive to make the lives of all dogs better through action, advocacy, awareness and education.
