AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION - DEXTER
BREED - Pug/Chihuahua mix, 'Chug'
SIZE - About 10 pounds
AGE - 6-12 months
GENDER - Male
MEDICAL CONCERNS - None known
BEHAVIOR CONCERNS - None known
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS - Dexter is a very shy dog when you meet him, and for some time afterwards until he gets to know you. He bonds well to other small dogs and would be best suited to a home with another small dog to teach him the ropes of the new home. He came to us from a breeding situation and is not well socialized. Once he gets to know you, he becomes quite affectionate. Because he is a flight risk, a very secure home will be required for adoption. Private, fully fenced yard is a MUST! A home without young children is also sought. Dexter should do well with older children. According to the breeder, Dexter is 6-12 months old. He is neutered, microchipped, up to date with all vaccines and has tested negative for heart worms. We believe that Dexter will be a wonderful pet for a family who is experienced and patient, and who allows him time to get used to them and their home. He will likely be no more that 12-15 pounds fully grown. An active adopter who has the ability to work from home or be at home the majority of the day to spend time with this amazing dog will help to bring him around very quickly!
Our adoption process starts with your email to carerescue@aol.com or Adopt a Pet inquiry. After we receive it, we will email you our prescreening questionnaire. Your answers will help us determine that your home and lifestyle matches the needs of the dog and our adoption criteria. Once determined, we will set up a private meeting with you and the dog at a park near our private kennel just east of Richmond. After meeting the dog and determining that it matches your preferences for a pet, we will accept your application. A home visit by one of our trained volunteers is required for all adoptions, and we will speak with your vet to ensure that you are a responsible pet owner.
